I just took delivery of the trailer a few days ago and I have some questions about the water heater. It is an Atwood that has DSI and can run on both electric and gas.
1) When lighting it up at monitor panel by either electric or gas or both, is it all right for the switches to stay red? The directions are not the best.....
2) Should the switch lights go out after it has attained the correct temp?
3) Where is the temp setting? The directions are very vauge. I looked behind heater outside trailer and I can not find any dials or switch.
Thanks!

It's OK for the lights to stay red, shows that everything is on and working. The temperature is preset at 120 degrees and not adjustable. So it's ultra easy for us mortal's to use! Also, you can shut down the gas part of the water heater ond=ce the water is hot, the electric rod will maintain the temperature. Switch the gas back on just prior to taking a shower to ensure you have enough hot water, tho! Again...nice trailer ya got there! Gotta love those Jayco's!
We have the same camper and heater - we use electric only to maintain the temp but switch on the gas right before the daily shower routine and when originally warming up the cold water. The lights stay on when they are enabled and the water heater is non-adjustable.
For whatever reason this topic confuses me. While my current TT isn't a Jayco, the first one was, I do have the Atwood Gas/Elec/DSI 6 gallon water. If I'm reading the manual correctly the light indicates either a non-ignition situation (no gas, no spark - page 4, line #5 under Electronic Ignition Maintenance) or thermal cutoff (excessive temp - page 4, line #5 under Electronic Ignition Operation). I can't remember if my light is on during normal use or not, I haven't used it for several months. The temp is factory set at 140 degrees and cannot be adjusted. It can be very, very H-O-T so be careful, it come on fast when you turn it on.

DznyFan, he is talking about the switches themselves, not the little dot next to it.
To the OP, if the indicator in between the two switches remains on after turning the propane switch on, then you need to turn it off and wait a few minutes to try again. It didn't light.

That's what I was talking about, the rectangular red light between the two switches. I'm not sure what dot you're referring to. I believe you reiterated, briefly, what I said, a non-ignition situation. I guess I should have included "if the light doesn't go out after a short period" or "if the light comes on" but the directions make no mention of this aspect as well, I was taking the info from the manual. Like the OP said, the directions are not the best and this has, for whatever reason, always befuddled me. If I turn on the switch and I get hot water then all is good.
The OP is talking about the actual switch staying illuminated. You know, when you turn it on, the switch lights up. Yes, this is normal, it tells you that you have turned it on.
Again, to the OP, if you turn on the propane switch(which will be lit even if the propane doesn't light)and after about 30 secs. the little round indicator light next to the illuminated switch comes on, then your propane didn't light. In this case, turn off the illuminated propane switch, wait 30 secs and turn it back on.
I am not sure if mine is the same water heater but when the light on mine comes on it indicates the gas did not ignite. The best way to tell is turn off the electric, turn on the gas and if the light comes on wait 20 to 30 minutes. If you don't have hot water, the gas is not lighting. On mine and a friend of mines, I have to go through the re-ignite process about 4 to 6 times before it will stay on.

Reading your post I'm thinking we have two different wall plates with the switches. Is your water heater an Atwood or a Suburban? On my wall plate used with the Atwood I have, left to right, the switch for the elec., the red light and the switch for the gas. I don't have the round indicator light like you mention (see below). I'm thinking, without actually trying it, that my switches/light funtion as described by Papasmurf10 but without the problem of staying lit. I cannot remember the red light being illuminated for the duration of my trips.
