We have been thru SA twice, both times on a Sunday afternoon. This time we are coming thru on a weekday about 10 AM from Kerrville headed for Houston. Would I save any time or SANITY by taking the 1604 loop around to I 10E instead of going thru town? I did a search in Roads and Routes and 1604 seems to get mixed reviews. We will be coming thru around the 26th of June. Any comments would be appreciated.

1604 loop on the north/north-east sides of town can be a pretty busy place at that time of day.
That said, I went out that way last year with my fifth wheel. No major problem. I came in on US 90 from the west, took 1604 around to I-35 on the NE side of town. It was busy, but nothing compared to what is closer in to San Antonio. Silly, but 1604 used to be out by itself and now it is all built up on the northern side of town. But still better (almost anything is better than) the I-410 loop.
A suggestion may be to just cut right through San Antonio. Go south on 1604 until you hit US 90. Then east on US 90 until it meets I-10. Before the trip I described above, we had gone through San Antonio east to west (reverse your planned direction) using this route, at about 7PM. It was relatively painless, as far as traffic goes. A lot less than the 1604 route we later used.

Personally, I would take Loop 1604 to I-10. I travel the loop daily an at 10:00AM the traffic is not that bad, unless there is an accident.

Since you will be traveling around 10 am you should have no problems going through downtown since the morning rush hour will be over by then.

Yep, 1604 is the route that I would take at that time of day too.
Why would anyone jump out of a perfectly good airplane? Because the door was opened!

Another choice would be to miss San Antonio completely by turning onto Highway 46 when you get to Boerne and go to New Braunfels and then on to I-10 at Seguin and and then to Houston. Check Google Maps.
I have towed my 5th wheel many times on 46 through Boerne it is a good road. The only thing is when you get to New Braunfels, you want to be sure and take the loop around town to the left, I think it is Loop 337, not sure. There is an underpass in downtown NB that would probably be a problem getting an RV under. The loop turns back into highway 46 when you go under I-35. It is about 57 miles from Boerne to Seguin via 46 and about 66 miles around SA via 1604. Not a whole lot of difference, but a much prettier road.

Just used the 1604 last weekend while returning home. Worked out great. Lot of construction going on on I10 in San Antonio. Al C.

I live in Boerne and I do not like hwy46 it's faster going to 1604 on to I10. Hwy 46 seems longer and is getting to be very busy with all the new growth out that direction. Also there seems to be a lot of accidents on 46 so be careful if you decide to go that route. 1604 at 10AM should be fine unless there is an accident.
