My carpet is starting to look worn. Can the carpet be changed to something else? How hard would it be to change and what would be the best material to use? I have slides to worry about. Can it be done as do it yourself project?

Probably will have to cut the old carpet out as with most RVs the carpet is installed before the walls are put up so it ends up actually with the walls sitting on top of it. To change it means to cut the old as close to the walls as possible and lay the new in a more traditional manner. Good luck with the project.

I would just tear up the old carpet and use it as a pattern for the new carpet. On mine I think they used a combination of glue and staples with mostly glue. I dont see why you cant go to Home Depot and get the same weight of nylon carpet that was previously used.

Not sure what type of subfloor you have, but they also make some GREAT adhesive for carpet (available at Lowe's at least) that I have used in the past that would certainly keep the carpet atached to the floor very well if applied properly. Although this may make it hard to replace again
I don't see why you couldn't use whatever carpet you wanted, provided there is enough clearance for the slide to move over it.

Just finished replacing the carpet in ours with Allure floating vinyl woodlook floor. Love it! The hardest part was cutting the carpet around the partitions, etc....but it is doable with a sharp carpet knife. Now I am working on putting the finishing touches on it. Wish I had done it sooner..........Betty

There have been several threads about this subject. People have replaced carpet with carpet, wood, tile and laminate. I had an Airstream a few years ago, and I replaced the carpet with Pergo laminate. As noted, the hardest part is removing the carpet. I managed to get almost all of it out from under partitions, and I removed a cabinet and the dinette to get the carpet from under those. The rest was easy, and the fittings went back in fairly easily.

I just removed much of my carpet in the living room of my 2005 Mountaineer as the wifey complained about dirt.
There is linoleum under my carpet and the carpet does not go under any walls.
Floors are easy to clean now.
The hardest part was pulling the "1 million" staples up that held the carpet.
You better have some muscle with the 1" plus long staples.
My carpet had no glue.

You might also consider looking around for patch pieces. I found enough perfect and untouched carpet in the bottom of my wardrobes and under the dinette, sofa, and bed to completely replace the bad pieces that show in the traffic area if I want to.
(I would vastly prefer wood, but already have hardwood in the galley and they ran it under the counters. Too much hassle to match or replace it now.)

We used carpet tiles for our replacement (commercial grade) and love it! We got ours here:
Carpet Tiles
They were fast, prompt and helpful! The lady who helped us even suggested a few other patterns - one of which we selected.
Here's a pictorial of "How To" and the results:
Look at Rehabilitation Page
If a tile gets stained or worn, just pull it up and replace!
