Greetings all
We have just purchased our first MH used. There are some issues with the leveling jacks leaking.
I am mechaicaly inclined and plan on rebuilding them.
Has anyone had expereince with this? If so any helpful hints would be appreciated.
Finding this sight has been a wonderful introduction to RVing, seems like there are not any crabby folks, which is nice.
Thanks in advance.

What do you mean no crabby folks, I work hard to be crabby, and don't you forget it LOL
Seriously, I don't know what year your MH might be, but HWH had a problem with O rings for a few model years. The O rings in the piston assemblies were made from the wrong synthetic rubber and would leak.
You ought to call HWH first and see what they will offer or suggest, but I know they are relatively easy to rebuild if you have worked on hydraulics before. You could also take them to a hydraulics shop and let them rebuild the jack units.
This advise and/or opinion is worth what you paid for it

The people at HWH are the nicest people you will ever deal with. They told me how to diagnose it myself and fix it over the phone. www.hwh.com or 1-800-321-3494

No crabby folks? Just wait. They'll poke their heads up sooner or later.
Wish I could be of help but I'm not mechanically inclined. I do creative maintenance. LOL.
Take care and travel safely.

some rams have to have special tools to take the caps off to pull the rams out and then there's the problem of getting the right parts to fix them, its much easier to take them to a shop that does them for a living they can get parts or sell you new or rebuilt rams ready to go.small rams are not to expensive

Wow
I didn't expect this many amswers so fast.
I will contact HWH
They leak is why they are not working.
And I understand it is probably a lot cheaper just to get rebuilt ones, however my idol is Tim the Toolman and by golly if I can get it fixed for $10.00, or spend $100.00 fixing it myself I am going for it.
Drives my wife CRAZY, however I derive deep satisfaction from fixing it myself!
Thanks
Jeff
BTW crabby people leave us alone!!!

Since you're in MO and HWH is in Moscow, IA, why don't you take a "camping trip" up to Moscow (335 miles) and have them re-build the ram? The folks at HWH are the nicest people, and I hear that if you bring their product (leveling jacks) to them, they'll rebuild them for FREE.
We had a right/front, leaking ram, in 2004. We called them, they told us how to remove it, drain it of hydraulic fluid and pack it. We sent it to them, they rebuilt it and shipped it back to us in Florida and we reinstalled it. We only paid for the shipping -- one way.
Because of the location of the ram (inside a box channel) I had to buy a "crows-foot" wrench to remove the hydraulic line. We couldn't get at the connection with a standard wrench, an off-set or a "shorty".

since you plan on doing it anyways no matter what ,I have rebuilt many a ram and valve assembly's in the old days its not hard if you have the right parts and tools to work with, just be aware on some rams the nut inside on the end of the ram is sometimes a one way nut but not always and has to be split off and replaced with a new one, taking the nut off normally can ruin the threads on the end of the ram making it hard to replace it with a new nut.being such a small ram its probably does not have the special nut,the largest ram I ever did was 50 ft long off a hydraulic crane, that was a long hard job taking that apart and putting it back together.
