Not just a HP problem, I got rid of a Canon printer for the same reason. After the new wears off, they just refuse to consistently feed paper into the printer. First it starts with failing to feed photo paper, then regular printer paper. I've tried different brands, and weights of paper, placed only a few pages in the tray or single sheets and no positive results. The little rubber wheels that feed the paper just won't pull the paper into the machine consistently. I have to sometimes just push with pressure on a page to get them to feed into the printer. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to get the rubber wheels to pull the paper instead of just slip on the pages????

Try cleaning the rollers with a damp cloth.

It sounds like the rubber wheels are glazed. Try cleaning them with alcohol. How old is the printer?

That happened to an HP printer I own as well. I called HP and they sent me a kit that consisted of a piece of plastic with rough material on it, similar to sandpaper, and a CD with a program on it to use with the sandpaper device. I removed the paper from the printer, put the sandpaper device in and ran the program off the CD. It apparently roughed up the rollers using the sandpaper. Regardless of what it actually did when it was done the printer worked fine again.

Not to invade on your privacy but I'm curious if you (or your family members) smoke a lot. I've seen this problem a lot in high-smoke environments. The tar in the smoke actually coats the rollers after a few years and makes them very slick.

I'd try some emory cloth - try to print something while hold the emory cloth against the rollers so that they start rolling.

Thanks for the help. No,no one in our MH smokes, that would be an easy fix tho
The printer is about a year old and has been acting up for the last 6 to 8 months. I like the idea from "strollin". I'll try to contact HP and see if that fix is available. The alcohol idea sounds like an alternative too, "how much do you have to drink before you think its working?". Sorry, couldn't resist.
Thanks again.

I went online with the HP chat and asked about the sandpaper and disk cleanup routine and they wouldn't answer my query about it. They told me to clean the front and rear rollers with distilled water. I did so and it is working perfectly right now, both with regular paper and photopaper. I'm sure that its a temporary fix, but at least its not that difficult to clean the rollers when it happens again, except my big hands don't fit into the cavity of the front rollers. Thanks to all for their advice.

The rollers get glazed from all the paper dust. Cleaning them removes the glaze and restores the tackey surface of the rollers.
