Hi Everyone;

Might be a dumb question...

Are slight bumps in a fiberglass sidewall common? I discovered a little bump near the entrance door today. Didn't see it before, but today is extra sunny and I can see it now.

Is this considered the beginnings of delamination or is it just one of downfalls of fiberglass finishes?

Thanks;

Lou

Good question. I had one on the rear back side and sanded, fiberglassed and repainted. I was affraid it might get worse. It's been a year and it seems to be holding up.

It could be either. Temperature and humidity control are crucial in fibreglassing. If either is off in the process, you'll get delamination bumps. However, the laminating process today is automated and of high quality, so I suspect you may have a wee bit of moisture in there from somewhere.

Our 2007 Jayco 232 is in a body shop as I type this having a blister in the surface fixed. They said it was delamination and it is being covered under our warranty.

If it was in the middle of a wall with no windows or doors nearby I wouldn't be too worried. Since it is near a door, that could mean that a seal nearby may have failed and allowed water to cause delamination.

We had a dimple in the right rear corner of our trailer.

The dealer sad it might get worse if not repaired.

So under warranty the dealer performed a fiberglass repair in that spot and installed a new swish sticker over the repair so you would have never known.
