Last week my friend lost her 9 month old puppy in a tragic golf cart accident. She thought she had taken the proper precautions tying the dog to a bar of some type inside the cart so that he could not jump out. He was riding in the seat next to her. Unfortunately the leash slid across the bar and he jumped. It was so quick she had no time to react. He was run over by the rear tire and had to be put to sleep. I saw many dogs this past weekend riding in golf carts. I just want to make people aware that accidents can happen...no matter how careful you may think you are being.

Sorry to hear about the dog.

I guess it is a sign of the times. We use to walk our dogs. Now we drive them around. Jay Leno said it best "How fat are we getting in this country!"

That's so sad...
Thanks for the heads up, personally I have seen many pups on golf carts when I use to visit my Dad's in Florida, most weren't secured in any way, most were really small dogs like Poodles, Laso's, Maltease etc. and appeared older so were probably trained to it from very young.
I remember one little black Poodle that was young and had a harness/seatbelt type keeping him firmly in one place.

My friend had just bought the golf cart to take her dog to the park for walks. She bought it to save on gas on her twice daily trips. She lives in a very hilly community, 4 miles from the park...so walking was not an option with her health conditions. She wanted to walk the dog at the park so he would be socialized with other dogs..instead of walking him in her neighborhood which had few other dogs (except coyotes). Who would have thought this kind of thing would happen. Just a tragedy. She's so broken hearted.

I am so sorry to hear of your friends lost of her puppy. We do ride our 2 Maltese in a golf cart but we always have their harness' on and my hands are firmly up underneath the harness. I believe, no matter how laid back a dog is, something could spoof them and a serious accident could happen.

I agree. Many of our pets show signs of obesity as well.

I'm so sorry! DH and I take my dogs on the golf cart with us at the CG. On one ride, I had their leashes on them and was holding the leashes tight while 2 were on the floor and one on the seat. One of the dogs got too close to the edge and she fell off to the ground. I quickly stopped and thought the back wheel had run over her as she was walking with a limp. But after an exam and x-rays at the vet, he said she was just bruised. I believe the leash got tangled around her leg as she fell. We now put a crate on the back seat and secure it and put 2 dogs in it. The other one lays in my lap while I hold her collar and leash.
