My old 13" tv had a RCA plug in the back of it that was hooked up the the coach speakers with the Red RCA plug pictured on the right.
I put in a new 19" flat panel and figured I would hook up the coach speakers to the "headphone" jack of the new flat panel. I went to radio shack and picked up this 1/8" stereo plug pictured on the left.
This did not work as planned. There are 3 wire connections w/ the new stereo plug and only 2 wires to hook up the coach speakers.
Can someone tell me what I need? The radio shack assistant couldn't help me.

Your old plug is a mono plug, not stereo. So the connection to your coach speakers is mono. Tip is signal + , outside is ground.
Your new mini plug is stereo. The front two connectors on the plug are left and right and the connector that is next to the plug is ground.
You can use the plug you have by connection the two front connectors on the plug to the coach speaker signal wire and the coach ground to the ground connector on the plug.
OR
Get a mono 1/8 mini plug. It will have two connectors. Tip is signal, rear is ground.
Either way does the same thing. It turns the stereo headphone output to mono for your coach speakers.

Thanks garym114, I'll give this a try in the morning w/ the plug I have. I never did try to ground the plug.

Why the headphone jack ? Surely your new TV has the RCA audio output jack,...or all 3 of my LCDs do anyhow.

Question: did you have TWO of those RCA plugs on the old TV?
If so Try this Radio Shack Link
NOTE: this is a stereo adapter.. If your television is MONO you may find only one of the two RCA type jacks works (The Left one) If your television is STEREO you will have to use the menu settings to choose MONO UNLESS... That is
Your old TV had two of those RCA jacks and you were using both of them
In which case one is left and one is right.

My old tv had only one RCA jack. There is only one RCA plug coming from my 1992 Class A P30 Winnebago Brave.
I ended up purchasing a 1/8" mono plug with the RCA adapter. I plugged the 1/8" mono plug into my headphone jack and then the RCA plug from the motorhome into the 1/8" mono plug adapter. I now have (mono) sound but it is quiet. I turn my TV all the way up and can hear the tv if all else is quiet. Not the best setup.
My TV does not have and audio output for the TV. It has them for video 1 and video 2 but that does not help me.
The TV is an Emerson model LD200EM8
Any other ideas?

You should use the stereo plug that I likned to.. Just use one of the jacks
The reason is your mono plug shorts one output
You may need to invest in a small amp.. If you do that you can do a stereo to mono mix down that may work best

This weekend I'll try the stereo plug again. I got flustered when the wires pulled out trying to put the shield on. So that is when I got the mono plug.
The discription from Wally worl in he above link says it has .... " Audio capabilities
Take advantage of two built-in speakers, virtual surround sound effect and a digital audio output (coaxial) for connecting surround sound systems"
I'll read the manual again as well.
