Guess I am just used to 'home' tap water. Do use filtered water in elec coffee maker tho'. Beats the muddy stuff we used to draw up outta the well - had to let it sit awhile 'fore you could see thru it. Really any water you are comfortable drinking should be o.k.

Several times per day for 50 years using a mixture of "Vicks" nasal spray combined with equal amount of "Store Brand" nasal spray .... because the Vicks is so expensive...

Also several times per day using the cheap 99 cent spray bottles of "Saline" nose spray.. to keep sinuses moist so my nose doesn't get dry and cracked and start bleeding.

Many times over the past 50 years medical doctors placed me on prescription nose sprays like "Flonase", and "Flunisolide".. as well as several types and brands of pills .. both OTC and prescription...nada, zilch, nein,,, nothing worked.

The most useless one of all was the "Claridin" and Claridin-D"... it had no more effect than an M&M candy...

I have "Year Round" nasal allergies so severe that I am sometimes bedridden for hours and hours with blinding headaches.

TWO CENTS WORTH
The story goes that a man died and was approached by the Devil who told him that he could buy his soul back for a dollar. The man searched his pockets and could only come up with 98 cent. While begging the Devil to forget the two cent he was short, an Angel happened by and hearing the Devil laughing, asked the man, "Would you mind if I put in my two cents ?" The Devil got so mad that he exploded in a puff of smoke and the man's soul was saved.
The moral: Sometimes putting in your two cents worth makes a difference.

John, I feel your pain. You sound like me, only much worse. The problem is that so many of these products make their own symptoms. Have you ever been to a Dr who suggested the sinus rinses? You see how many people on this board have had success using them. My HMO has never even sent me to an ENT, although I've asked. Fortunately, I did wean myself off the OTC sprays (except saline) although I think it was darned near as hard as kicking smoking. I understand the pure panic of not being able to breathe and I hope you can find something that helps soon.

After suffering a life-threatening bout of septic shock brought on by a sinus infection, DHs doctor suggested sinus rinses. It has been extremely helpful to him. Not that he loves doing it, but he doesn't mind. The sinus rinses have dramatically reduced the number of sinus infections he gets and he has been less sick, in general.

My allergist recommended NeilMed sinus rinse twice a day. I don't mind doing it at all and feel that it has helped.

I've been using the OTC 'Simply Saline' nasal mist - as irrigation/rinse especially after mowing the lawn - it does help me alot.

Well, I think I have to take back my initial disapproval of this product. It seems that I was leaning too far forward and that allowed the saltwater to get up in the ear tubes. Keeping my head much more upright makes a lot of difference. I am lucky and the "drying" effect lasts several days for me.

Bud finally tried the NeilMed saline rinse and has had better results than any other decongestants or nasal sprays have ever given him. It actually took 4 or 5 attempts to get the blockage in one of his sinuses open. I will spare you the gory details, suffice it to say he is quite impressed.

Funny that I remember my dad telling me that salt water in an atomizer was an old-time remedy for sinus congestion, back in the early 1900's. What goes around, comes around?
