Did you mean High Rock Lake Campground in Lexington?
Yes. Lexington is in Davidson County as I mentioned.

How 'bout the old Zooland CG (new name now) then go to the ZOO at Asheboro, not Ashville.

I agree with eecheek. I forgot to mention High Rock Lake CG.
Spent a long weekend there in the Fall. Awesome lake, beautiful sites, great for fishing, quiet and close to Childress Winery.
Worth the trip.

Thanks everyone!
I'm hoping for High Point/Oak Hollow Lake. I'll call Friday before we leave to see if they have some openings. (The site said they don't take reservations.) I see they're having "boat drags" and the guys would like that.
If they're full, then I think we'll try Morrow Mountain.
Anyone been to the Cotton Patch Goldmining campground? I read they were doing some cleaning up this winter. http://www.cottonpatchgoldmine.com/rates.html I didn't see any real pictures of the campground so I'm not really entertaining the thought of going unless someone here has a review to share.
If you see a white SunnyBrook with blue stripes parked in a Wal-mart parking lot, please take pity on us and stop and say hi.
Is Dan Nicholas normally full on weekends?

I live within 2 miles of Cotton Patch. I've never visited to pan or camp so I can not comment on the facilities other than to say it seems to be a small campground with few amenities. If you're interested in panning for gold and just sitting back taking in the scenery then that's your place. I have seen many tent campers out during the past few weeks. Hopefully someone can provide more information.
I hear that Morrow Mountain has now added electricity to a section of sites.
Maybe there might be a last minute cancellation at Dan Nicholas. We love it there.

Try Holly Bluff Campground just on the Other side of Denton. That is about one mile from my house and I live 26 miles from Dan Nicholas Park. It has a swimming pool, Putt putt and is a family oriented campground...I have stayed there for over twenty years. It is ran by Kelly and Ramona Shaw.

Not sure of the distance but have heard good things about the campground at Kerr Lake Reservoir. That would be NE of Greensboro.
If you go N to the area around Martinsville, VA, there is Philpott Lake. It has Fairystone St Park. Had a great experience there. During hot weather, great kids area in swimming lake with toys built into water. Very close by is a place to search for fairystones. History on this is available at the campground. There is also Goose Point Campground which has some waterfront sites.
