we are headed to Lime Kiln on the coast near Big Sur.
What is the preferred route?
I80 to 680 to 101 to 1
or
I5 to 152 to 1

152 West of Gilroy has a sign posted "vehicles over 45 feet prohibited". 156 from 101 to Castroville or 68 Salinas to Monterey are good roads.

I live in Monterey and make most of that drive every day.
I80->680->101->156->1
156 is in Prunedale right before you reach Salinas, and is a straight flat road.

I would concur with oujoker. His route would be the best. Gas up in Seaside or Monterey on the way in!

If you're driving anytime around commute time I'd consider taking I5>152>156>1 and avoiding the Bay Area all together.
