Hey all!

I just bought my first RV, an '85 Fleetwood Jamboree Rallye. It's a 19', built on a Chevy chassis. Somebody upgraded the sound to a Pioneer Supertuner 4x50 CD deck, and put some Pioneer speakers in the back that are in plastic cases. They sound OK, but I was thinking about building up the sound a little.

I'm not a 'thumpin' teenager, but I upgraded the stereo in my Izuzu Trooper with a modest amp and bass tube sub-woofer (used). I couldn't believe how much difference it made! I saw a 6" bass tube at a pawn shop yesterday, and saw a 200w amp on craigslist --- I started thinking about it in the RV!

Powered amps do pull some watts. Would it be a mistake to try running one from my coach battery? For that matter, wouldn't it make sense if the dash stereo unit also ran off the coach battery? Mine presently runs from the ignition, and doesn't run at all until I have full ignition -- not on aux. power.

Any thoughts?

The stereo would definitely draw some power. I have a separate deep cycle in my boat just for the stereo which we play when anchored. I have been thinking of doing the same kind of thing and tying it in to the TV for better sound for the kids while driving. I am using a computer speaker system (a decent one) for the same purpose now, but would be better to have nicely mounted system. The other choice is use normal home theater system, but that probably draws even more power.

Two sources for quality auto speakers, not just thumpers.

I'm free of prostate cancer for 5 years now.
All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

well one thing you could do so you dont run the coach batteries down from the stereo is just have a switch inline from the engine battery so that you could have power straight from the battery when the ign. is off. What I plan to do is change out the stereo in my bounder and add a new cd/dvd unit and then run the video out to the tv and then we will have great sound when watching movies and I wouldn't need a extra dvd player in the cabinet.

And just let me say the end all best place to get equipment is
www.crutchfeild.com

those guys have all the info and are very helpful and they have good prices

Do you all run your dash radio/CD from the vehicle battery or the deep cycle? It seems to me that the deep cycle would make more sense, so I wouldn't risk running the other one down too low for the starter.

I've got tomorrow off, and about 100 things to do before leaving for Oklahoma City Sat. morning, but am hoping to at least get around to checking the power source wiring and changing it. Other upgrades will have to wait until I get back.

i run mine off the engine bat. and if you do run that battery down you should have a switch to allow you to start the vehice with the coach batteries and then it will be charged again as you drive. and the stereo will not draw to much you can run it for sometime and not have to worry about running the battery down as long as its a good battery. That is unless you add a few amps and some huge subs and just rock out all night

I just got this RV and am still learning about it. I did see a button somewhere marked 'emergency start' or something like that. I didn't know what it was. I guess it's to start off of the coach battery. That's good to know.

A few amps and huge subs might make quick enemies at a campground. I was thinking about a modest amp (200w-350w)and one small sub though. I added that to my Isuzu Trooper work truck. I don't rattle windows, but it really made my sound much more rounded.

Does anyone know how to calculate the draw an amp like that would have?
