I am leaving for Alaska soon and wondered if Big Horn Highway# 40 (going North away from Hinton) is open and ok to travel? We will be up there probably around June 10th.

I would rather not go back east from Icefields parkway to Edmonton and then up.

Any info would be great.

We came through there May 13 & 14th. Road in good shape, had very little snow
along sides of road. Should be OK. Watch for wildlife. Think you will enjoy.

Highway 40 north of Hinton to Grande Prairie is a high grade all weather road, paved all the way and is a very nice drive. Lots of scenery and wildlife.

Open road, only way to go!
Way to many toys, and the wife found out the actual cost

Road is in great condition, open all the time. There are some steep grades, notably the climb out of the river valley just outside Hinton.

If you are going that way, make sure to stop and visit William A Switzer Provincial Park.

Other stops are Rock Lake and the Berland River.
