worked our way up to a C and then went to a larger class A mostly because of better sleeping arrangements and more room.

Growing up my parents had a camper and then when I was a senior in high school (1987) my dad came home with a 1978 Pace Arrow on a Dodge chassis and I was hooked. I worked on it every chance I could to improve it. My parents didn't use it as much as I would have liked them to. When my wife and I got married in 1989 we tented it for a year and then my in-laws let us use their 1972 Fireball 18' TT that I restored. We used that for about a year but it was hard to pull the toys and the trailer so we saved up and purchased a used 1991 Northland 10 1/2' camper and bought a wrecked 1991 Wells Cargo 24' enclosed trailer and rebuilt it to haul the toys in. We used this setup for about 4 years while we started our family and bought a house. By now the motorhome bug bit me again when we would go to the dunes and see motorhomes pulling enclosed trailers. I convinced the wife that we "had" to have a motorhome and puchased a 1984 30' Travelcraft class A on P-30 chassis. We had this coach for about 6 years and many improvements. My wife and I were hooked for life. We had friends that were upgrading and we decided that if we were going to upgrade that I didn't just want bigger, I wanted better. We didn't go as new as some of our friends and ended up with a 1991 Beaver Contessa 38' DP and used it for 7 years. I absolutely loved this coach and how prestine we had it. We decided we wanted to upgrade again but we figured we couldn't upgrade to the level we wanted with a house payment so we kicked it in the butt and payed our house off in 2006. We then started looking for an upgrade but my want list was long and I didn't want to spend so much that we couldn't afford to use it. After about 6-7 months of looking we found our current 40' DP. We have used it and enjoyed it thoroughly the last year and just purchased a new enclosed trailer to haul the toys. My wife and I are hooked on the RV lifestyle for life. Mike.

Started with an 18 yr old pop up in 2006, sold it and bought the Bounder in 2007. So we kind of jumped right in. While we loved the pop up, it didn't quite fit our needs as we like to do road trips and spend time traveling, rather than parking and camping.

We "Grew" into our A. We had 2 PU's, 2 TT, 1 21ft the next was 29 Ft. We looked for a couple of years. Mostly at local RV Dealers and at the shows here in STL. We were at the show in 2006 and found what we have now. The DW said what ever we look at must have a "Wow" factor and be in our budget.

The rest is history.. We love our A and trave ALOT. We are leaving tomorrow for Branson for 10 days. July 11th, we head for Rushmore, the Badlands, etc...

Thats my $.02 worth...

YMMV

We went from tent camping in the 60's to bigger and better tents in the 70's then to a 16' TT in the 80's to a 22' TT in the 90's. We purchased a used but in terrific shape, a 1994 Southwind that convinced us we loved the aspect of of a class A diesel pusher, so we spent 8 months planning and researching what we wanted in a new DP. We purchased our current DP and will never need anything else. Being retired offers us freedom and with good credit we can secure loans as needed to purchase diesel fuel lol. It's no doubt an expensive hobby but the rewards are worth the sacrifices.

We were driving the Rim road of Crater Lake in a class C - when the wife nervously looked down the canyons and said it would be nice to have a touring car instead of a big RV.
Working on getting a 2009 the way we (she) want it - with computer work area!

How did we get our Class A? Well, we bought it. <

In the 60's we had a tent. Worked ok. 70's and 80's used an OLD crank up tent trailer ( for the life of me I can't make the name come out of my mouth!). By the 90's we moved up to Travel Trailers ( still my favorite, but not usable with Oscars physical condition anymore ). by 2004 we had the first MH (class c) but not very usable. Now we have a Class A with full handicap lift, and mods to make it usable with his big ol'power chair!!!!

We started in 84 with a Coleman pop-up. Used it for several years and then moved to a 25 Coachman trailer. I used the trailer as a second home when I got transferred and wanted to keep the wife and high school aged children in the same locality.

On retiring, my wife and I took our first vacation and found that it was just not big enough, so we transitioned to a 32 foot 5th wheel.

It was a natural progression for us to move to a Class A.
