I don't know if you other drivers feel this way but I really don't like the fact that Oregon wont let you pump your own gas... Not only do they never really fill up my tank all the way but some dumb ass decided not to put my gas cap back on halfway home (only to be told so by then next gas pumper about 200 miles down the road)... Seriously, how hard of a job could that be, how could you forget to put the gas cap back on?
Grrr....

I agree with you totally! I've lived under this oppression for 30 years. Self serve has been on the ballot a few times and it always fails. The advertising focuses on the little ole' ladies who will have to pay a fortune for full serve, if they can find it at all, how the big oil companies will rake in more profits, and all of the jobs that will be lost. I've made it a habit to watch them replace the gas cap, and if I miss that, I get out and check it before leaving the station. The habits work the other way, too. Sometimes when I'm out of Oregon I pull up to the pump and wait for somebody to come up to the driver's window. It takes me a while to figure it out sometimes.

I agree with you also. If there could be a drawback to traveling in OR, this would be it. I'll put up with it, because I love Oregon.

We were surprised when we went to gas up in Grants Pass, that someone was waiting to pump our fuel. If you don't have to wait, it's fine; having to wait for someone to pump it for you would really ruffle dh's feathers. He's impatient.

On our road trip in 2002 we needed to get gas while leaving Bandon. It was a miserable rainy day and guess what, the attendant let me pump my own gas.

Mike, this has been going on for years and years. I '75 I was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, Wa. and was heading home for the holidays pulling a TT. Had two gas tanks. I stopped and started pumping gas, not knowing I wasn't supposed to. Admitedly, the attendant didn't take the caps off BUT, they were on the pump right by where the nozzle goes back in. The aux. tank filler neck was forward of the rear wheel, it was snowing. When I filled up on the other side of the state I found out there was water in the tank! Had to be towed, pay for a pump out and another tank of gas. Guess nothing has changed in umpteen years.

Hay OREGON.....Don't feel like you are all alone....NJ won't let you pump either....I found out the hard way....Pulled up to a pump...Got out started pumping gas and the attendant came over and gave me a dirty look....Said he was to do that....I said then why weren't you here to greet me?...I got another dirty look.....Then when I finished and gave him a 50 for a 48 dollar pump total he has the nerve to ask if I needed change....I told him I was not in a habit of tipping for something I could do myself. Then he tells me that in NJ the station has to pump the gas...Go Figure....The rest of the way through NJ I am watching for the NJ state PUMP POLICE to pull up behind me and pull me over....I don't know does NJ still have the death penalty?

When I fill up in Oregon, I just stand there like I was doing the pumping and watch, then after I watch the attendant put the cap back on, I take it off and put it back on myself making sure that I hear it click 3 times, (Gasser). No problem, I just don't get to "Hold" the nozzle myself.

I agree on the not filling it up part. But for the most part everyone has been friendly and helpful. No grumps so far.
