just curious how others have wired an x-tra trailer plug for a pull behind with your 5vr...I have a Gm truck and really don't want a lot of ugly splices to mess up the factory wiring. Thinking of making some type of pig tail to come out of the 7 pin plug....please give me some ideas...thanks.

Well, I spliced into the trailer harness about 2 feet from the rear of the trailer. As I have a sealed underbelly on the trailer I took of the covering panel and then ran all the wires to a 4 wire outlet that I screwed to the rear bumper with parts I got from Checker Auto. When the panel was replaced it was all hidden. (I'll look for links to the parts later, if I get some time)
If you make a pigtail from the front connector you will have a lot od additional wiring. I didn't fancy that

On our Teton there is a junction fuse block inside our basement. Each wire, left & right turn signal-brake, running lights, 12-v, etc have separate fuses before the wires continue on to their loads. I purchased an additional fuse block and wired both fuse blocks in parallel. From the second fuse block I ran #10 stranded to the rear of our fifth wheel.
This way if there is a short in our toads running light circuit the running light circuit for the fifth wheel is not effected and vice versa.
Also the original load on the fifth wheel circuits are not increased as when you just tie into the trailers rear circuit as many do.

I Went to my local Wildcat dealer to see about a receiver hitch and a flat 4 electrical connect to pull my ATV trailer.
Sure, they said, $550.00 thank you!
They must think they`re Exxon Mobil!

I had my hitch custom made and the wiring installed for around $350.
My spare is in a recessed area under the rear of my 5er and the wires were in that area.

They make an adapter for the 7 pin plug to a four pin. I wired from the truck back to the hitch on the fiver and I have a separate 7-pin in the box for the fiver. I tow a boat behind the fiver. I also have a GMC. Another way is to tap into your tailights on the fiver for your power to the extra trailer.

I wired mine like Martyn did. Pulled the underbelly pannel off and spliced into the trailer wires.
