Should I lube the the equalizer hitch sway bars (currently a lot of squeaking from the friction)? The tech at the dealer said not to lube. The label on the equalizer hitch says to lube?

I have the equal-i-zer system on our TV and TT. I also had the squeeling/squeeking sound after a few trips. I purchased the equal-i-zer lube at our local RV dealer. They said to use VERY LITTLE per side and top and bottom. The system is supposed to be tight to operate as intended. Too much lube will decrease the control. I found using as little as the size of a pencil eraser on top and bottom as worked very well with little or no change it the sway control.

Happy Camping!!!!

According to the Equalizer site you can lube them and it will not affect the sway control.

I've found that most of the noise seem to actually come from the ball and not the bar (although they do make noise), so I just dab a little greese on the ball and it seems to help - at least get it to a tolerable level.

I also know people that use wax papaer in place of greese - makes less of a mess. You can lay a sheet on the ball before hooking up and you can also use it on the bars.

Equal-i-zer sells a lube for "hitch balls, hitch head, and L-brackets." So it must be OK to lube it.

Equal-i-zer High Performance Lubricant

I use a small amount of lithium grease - just enough to quiet it down.

From Equalizer Instructions page 24:
Recommended Maintenance:
a. L Lubricate top outside surface of arm socket and bottom surface of hitch head with Equal?i?zer High Performance Lube. (mfg. part # 91-00-4250) Keep this area clean and lubricated. Some wear is normal as sockets ‘seat in’. Irregular wear in this area may indicate overload or inadequate lubrication.
b. M Maintain the socket bolts tight to between 45-60 ft.lbs. torque.
c. Keep the hitch clean and free of dirt and road grit.
d. Paint as needed to prevent rust.
e. Lubrication between the L-Bracket (item #15) and the spring arm is optional. Lubricating the Equal-i-zer L-Bracket will likely lessen or decrease your sway control by a small degree.

Instructions

I just dab a small about of Lithium Grease on the suggested locations and very small amount on the L brackets each time I load up to camp. I also clean the hitch off after every trip home.

I lube ball, bar pivots, and a real lite coating on L brackets. Worked great for over 40,000 miles so far.

I am experimenting with Equal-i-zers "Sway bracket Jackets". My first set died a quick death last year. The great people at EQ recommended a few hitch adjustments and sent me a new set of jackets. My hitch is now very quiet, and no messy spring bars!

Here:

They are a hard plastic composite "pad" that fits on the L-brackets. They prevent mental-to-metal contact and thus less noise. EQ has had some problems with the earlier jackets wearing prematurely. The new ones seem to be much better!
Proper hitch set-up is crutial, or the jackets will break. The spring arms must be parallel to the TT frame.

Lots of posts here on this issue, do a quick search! Good luck!
