It used to happen to mine all the time. I took a can of the spray foam insulation and filled the box. No place to nest now.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried a couple of the solutions and will keep trying. Have a plastic bag on now. Going camping more often is the most enjoyable, but I just got back 4 days ago and just cleaned out a nest and 3 eggs. I had cleaned it when we left and fledged 3 baby birds. We'll keep trying.

We have a level gage on top of our pin box and we also have a trail-air pin box, which means it has a rubber air bag. The sun has discolored the level gage and I just replaced it. I want to cover the rubber part of the pin box, in addition to keeping out the doves that are always building a nest in the pin box. Went to Home Depot and found a BBQ/Smoker cover that looks like it might fit over the pin box. I'm going to put the cover on it and use bungee cord to secure it and this will hopefully take care of all of these issues.

I solved mine by taking a piece of fiberglass window screen, cutting it to cover it, and then attaching it with heavy duty stick on Velcro. I store my cord in there when I am not towing, but they still tried to build a nest until I covered it.

I was eating dinner inside the house and look out at the the camper and seen starlings flying in and out of the king pin box. Sure enough they where building a nest inside. I removed the nest before any eggs were laid. My solution to ending their free room was I stuffed the space with 2 of those cheap small plastic bounce balls (the kind you get in the toy dept at Walmart,etc... They work really well, and can be removed easily when I'm ready to hook-up and go.

I stuffed an old blanket in mine. Worked like a charm!

I guess we have more determined birds here in North Georgia...
We got back from vacation celebrating our 19th anniversary on 4/28/08 - nothing in the pin box when we hitched up. When we went to hitch up 5/22/08 for our Memorial Day trip, Erik pulled a dense, thankfully empty, bird nest out of the pin box. Son of a gun if there wasn't another very dense, well-formed bird nest (empty again, thankfully) when we hitched up 5 days later on the evening of 5/27/08 to come home the next morning from about 50 miles Northeast of the house. Go figure...
I like the suggestions for lawn bags or filling the pin box with spray insulating foam...any other suggestions???

I went to Wal-Mart and bought a large car washing spounge, it fits tightly and I have a large spounge if I need it while camping. Once in a while yellow jackets will try to nest in there, small pices of Gorilla Tape over any spare bolt holes took care of them.

I use a large black trash bag and duct tape. Works like a charm. Covers the whole pin box. Protects it from the weather, also.
