I think a lot of people are doing this around here....
My SIL works for Harley Davidson locally and every new bike they got in this winter and spring are all sold, they're looking at other dealers that may have a surplus because they only have trade ins, nothing new on the floor at all.

Salem,
Peggy has a Honda Silverwing scooter (600cc twin) and she gets around 50mpg. If she cruises on the interstate at 70mph it will drop down to around 45mpg. Riding slower speeds in the hills in Arkansas last week she got 65mpg. She loves it.

There's been a tremendous increase in MC accidents over the past two or three years. And guess what - many of those MC operators are in the over 40 age bracket. Like you, many years ago owned a MC and now have recently bought a new one. One of the big factors in these increased MC accidents is that even though the over 40 driver used to drive one years and years ago, they have forgotten the riding skills they had 25 to 30 years ago but don't realize they've lost them in the ensuing decades. Added to this is that most MC accidents are caused by drivers in cars and trucks who fail to yield the right of way to the MC's. With a combination of a car driver stuck on stupid and a older MC operator whose skills aren't what they used to be - you have a recipe for real pain.
Of course the big issue is that if you do have an accident at the very least your going to get hurt real bad and most likely will die.

In my area it’s a no-go because of the aggressive drivers. Tried it again a few years ago (against my wife’s approval). After a few months of pleasure riding realized either I’m going to get run over by some idiot or I’d be getting 3 squares a day for teaching some idiot respect the hard way

I love motorcycles. I put over 10k miles on one a few years back. Got rid of it because my family wouldn't fit on it. But I love em.
One thought however, a motorcycle used for pleasure cruising is one thing but when you use it as your every day driver the chance of accident goes way up. Two months ago I had a close friend lose his leg after a lady ran a light and t-boned him. Be careful.

I'd get one except for the fact that I still have to work most days of the week and by the time one rides a M/C to work in EWE-stun, one is not entirely presentable for the office during June through September...at least that's been my experience.

I'd take a training course, but wouldn't hesitate to get a bike again.

I'm 61 and ride my motorcycle daily, weather permitting. Been riding for 40 years.

The secret is defensive driving. Treat every vehicle that you are not on a weapon. Use caution. If something happens you will get hurt.

I'm 61 and ride my mountain bike daily but if I want to get a quick 0-160mph adrenalin rush in a 1/2 mile from a dead stop I just use my Kawasaki ZX-11.

Let's just say I am "over 65". I have a Kawasaki Vulcan 750 sitting in the garage. I am presently trying to get rid of it so I can get a Honda Goldwing Interstate. DW is not comfortable on the back of the Vulcan, the hope is that she will be OK on a Goldwing. If I can find a 'wing, we will try a good ride to be sure before we buy.
Anyway, if you want to get back up on two wheels, go right ahead. you seem to be aware of the dangers, both from inattentive car drivers who may not see a bike, and the inherent dangers of the bike itself.
Go for it.

I've been riding for almost 40 years. Mostly Yamahas. Bought my first Sportser last year and like the bike. I didn't at first, but after riding and feeling how it handles, I'd buy another one.
