Outstanding decision!!
The only time I've ever been without a bike for the last 44 years was when I was in Germany in the Army. Can't imagine life without two wheels under me. I don't ride as much, but I still love to get out on my sport bike and do some corner carving.

That’s cool, congratulations and good luck!
One thing I realized with my last bike was the reason I felt so refreshed after a good ride. Besides really enjoying the riding, I think it was the fact of having to be so focused on the task there was no room to think about anything else if that makes sense.
You guys have me thinking again! But don’t think it will happen until the kids are grown or we move to a less congested area.
p.s. I think pictures of the new bike would be cool!

Here's my new toy:

I'm adding a windshield. If you've ever been hit by a cicada while doing 70 MPH you con't forget it.

I bought a used Kawasaki Vulcan 800 today. But before I even take delivery, I will take a motorcycle safety course next weekend. My first few trips will be around the local neighborhood. Despite the fact that we live in a suburb of Dallas, we are in the far northeastern suburbs with plenty of nearby rural roadways to explore and enjoy. I have no desire to fight heavy Dallas traffic except for the short two miles or so that I might face driving home from work. But it is a local street and not the highway. Traffic generally moves so slow there that it gives little opportunity for the idiots to run over you.
My son got over it and is even a little excited about it, I think. But I know he still worries. I certainly worried about him.
Wish me luck, and thanks for the advice and information!
Good luck and congrats on the new bike. I have no doubt you will enjoy it.
I have been riding since I was 8 yrs. old and still enjoy it every time I crank mine up for a ride.

It makes perfect sense. I feel the same. In that regard, motorcycling is a form of meditation.

Nice ride! A windshield will not only be practical, it will add to the sharp look of the bike, too.

I like the retro-look of it! Looks kinda like Peter Fonda's bike in Easy Rider. Enjoy!

Suppose you go past 1,000 side streets, each one with a car waiting to pull out.
Number 1001 will pull out in front of you. Or 2001.
Nobody has ever 'laid it down' to escape an accident. It went out from under them due to bad braking technique.

Very nice looking Vulcan! Thanks for sharing it. I’ll post a picture of the one I had when I get it uploaded.
Agree with the windshield, getting hit with bugs let alone really big ones is no fun. A nice upgrade I did was installing floorboards, really made cruising comfortable.
Edit.
This was my Vulcan 800, the only thing I added were the floorboards. It was a great bike!
