Lawsons Landing ( aka Dilons Beach ) is one of the most beutifull and fun camp grounds in California. With nearly a mile of beach to walk, fish and play in the sand, dig for goo'ie neck clam's, catch tasty crab with your nets or if your feeling adventurous diving for abalone Lawsons Landing is most definatly worth saving for generations to come.

I myself have found it to be my favorite area to take my family and have visited Lawsons for over 10 years now. It has become tradition for my friends and family to camp there in the summer months. It is a privatly owned 960 acre area that also happens to be cattle ranch land. The family has owned the propety since 1929 and now the Sierra Club and the California Coastal Commission are trying to minimize it drasticly or do away with it all together. I myself support the "tread lightly" program and do not leave a foot print behind so other's can enjoy what I so dearly do myself.

Please take a second and add your name to the petition. If you dont live in California or dont have plans to recreate at Lawson's Landing remember, your favorite camp site could be next!

Save Lawsons Landing

Thanks everyone, and please post your opinions. Would love to hear what you all think. Positve or other

You know, I agree with the concept of a "Sierra Club" and a _____ Club. But some how the tread-lightly/leave-no-trace message got changed to "lock the public out" and eventually to, "save it from the public."

Signed the petition and best of luck to you with this. We're going through a similar battle here in the east with beach closures on Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Well said. I earned a degree in Environmental Science and so many folks in that field believe that any human interaction with the environment is an intrusion. It's too bad.

I read a little on Lawson Landing. Its in Marin County and while the county changed over the years Lawson Landing didnt really change that much with old abandoned trailers near the shoreline. The Lawson family runs two things on their 960 acres a cattle ranch and the resort. The Sierra Club and the California Coastal Commision are not trying to shut the place down they are trying to move the RV and Camping sites further back from the shoreline. The Sierra Club wants to cut the number of sites down. The Lawson family is to be commended for allowing the public to have access to the shoreline. I am pretty sure something will be worked out after all the Lawson family can always threaten to turn the property into condominiums or something and limit public access.

I bet there is more to this story than the OP has given.

I agree with Keith. Public access will be more likely to continue with SC and CCC involvement. It is very unusual to have that kind of access on private land- forever.

Many people don't know there is a difference between respectful family RVers and "Run-a-muck" partyers. The 4x4 crowd realizes this and many clubs have PR campaigns of cleanup, education, facility maintenance, and cooperation with government regulation to minimize the negative impact of the yahoos that ruin it for everybody.

Maybe that sort of "hands-on" involvement by the RVers would be helpful at Lawson Landing.

Vapor Trail: (I also have a BS in Environmental Science, btw)

Are u kidding me?? This is how it starts to happen - inch by inch - wake up!!

This is how it started in the Sierra's along some of our favorite camp sites going back to the late 60's to the early 70's (yes, we have been camping actually since the 60's). Move away from the stream today ended up full site closure from 4 of our favorite camping spots in just the past 4 short years.

I have been very involved with the Blue Ribbon Coalition,(BRC) Friends of the Rubicon (FOTR). My 4wd club did a picket line patition in Placerville when the Eldoraldo National Forest was and still is under siege to try and shut down to public access (land that we have every right to use respectfully from OUR tax money) and managed to save over a thousand acres from being shut out to you and I. A loud educated voice is always listened to, and the more that voice is heard the better chance we all have to continue to have access to recreate on land that is rightfully ours to use (in a respectfull manner)

The Lawson family has used that land in a respectfull manner for years and years. Yes the old dilapidated trailers should be removed, and the septic system could probly use some work. But other than that, EDUCATE the people using the land and if you see anyone disrespecting any part of it, EDUCATE THEM!! I am so tired of people being scared to teach someone, or ask someone to clean there trash up, or "please do not go into that area". People have become a Stand back and watch this idiot instead of teaching them what they are doing is wrong. By that time, the Ranger or Sierra Club (aka over educated morons) have even more pull and ammo on there side.

If you enjoy your right to recreate on private or public land and do not want to see you or yourself get shut out of your favorite area's, join the BRC. They are there fighting for you and your rights.
