Since we are thinking of getting a new camper we were looking at a Forest River Flagstaff 227 and a Coachmen Clipper 1128ST. (IIRC the model numbers). They are similar floor plans, I'm wondering what their owners think of them?
Thanks,
Wildcat

I think Coachmen makes a better quality PUP than Forest River.

"I think Coachmen makes a better quality PUP than Forest River."
And an equal number of individuals will think just the opposite. There are other brands also but you know that... And don't forget that the Rockwoods are clones to the Flagstaffs except for badging and colors. IF you went that way be sure to check out both dealerships if you have both in your area. I saved a lot of money doing that.
Forest River's are tongue heavy but don't sway, I can't speak to the Coachmen but there are good reports on them.
I am a veritable font of late...

We bought a Coachmen Clipper last year and are quite happy with the quality.
You might go beyond the floor plan when appraising a model. One reason we bought the Clipper was because it had a larger (2.4 cu.ft.) frig than other brands (1.9 cu.ft.). As well, the front storage bin is worth its weight in gold - we would not buy any trailer without one.
Have fun shopping.

Keep the opinions coming please. The DW and I really liked our dual dinette set up with our DS and two retrievers. We liked to leave the U dinette without the table and just use it as a big couch.
I understand about the storage trunk the Coachmen has is a plus, the Forest River I believe has storage under the U dinette like our Palomino has and I liked that, so far I hadn't been able to fill it up. One big difference is the COachmen has a two piece door (like our palomino) and the Forest River has a one Piece Door. Apparently when you set up you take our a half door and store under the back bunk? From those who have the one piece door, is it a plus???? Also if anyone has the factory Bike racks for either, what are your opinions????
All info and opinions are appreciated I realize brand loyalty takes place too, We like dealing with this dealer, But they are stopping selling the Coachmens and Are going to exclusively sell Forest River but they said they will continue to service the Coachmens.

just a thought but have you looked at jayco? the 1207 is a very similar but the 1207 is a little larger or if you like the front storage, the 1206 has the front storage and a dinette slide. we have a 1207 and i have a ton of storage. not to mention jaycos warranty if you are buying new. i have included links to all three i hope the links work.

We actually have the Flagstaff 227, 2004 model, and love it. We like it for very much the same reasons you posted such as the U dinette with the removable table. Most of the time we have the table out but during bad weather we put it in for a great place to play games. It feels very roomy inside and plenty of space for storage under each bench. Been very impressed with the quality as well. Got it used for a good price. There is a Jayco model as noted above that is a very similar layout and if you have a good Jayco dealer that is a good option. You said you like the dealer and I think that is more important then what brand of camper you get as they are basically all the same. If you're buying new and the dealer is going Forest River only then I'd be looking at the Forest River more just for ease of any warranty work.
Here are some pics of our camper:
Flagstaff 227
If you look closely you can see the bike "bars" that we had the dealer put on. They are perfect for our Yakima bike racks using the mighty mounts and you can use the mounts to also put a storage basket on there instead (which we might do in the future as we don't seem to be taking our bikes out much).
We also just replaced the cruddy factory awning with a Carefree of Colorado Campout that attaches directly to the camper. Best $300 upgrade we ever spent. Campout Awning
Any questions just post away.

We purchased a Rockwood Freedom 2280 back in March and have had it out several times. This is our first pop up and we are truly pleased with it. My wife particularly likes the heated mattress pads. She enjoys it so much she cancelled our room reservations at Disney in June and move our reservations to the campgrounds for 10 nights. I researched pretty much all the campers available before we purchased our '07 model and was very impressed at the options and materials used on the Rockwood. As far as storage goes, I thought that I would rather have the trunk on the front as well, but I have yet to completly fill the compartments under the dinette seats and under the gaucho couch/bed, so there is still a lot of storage room available. I also like the one piece door, it is very simple to install and take down. On a saftey note, they also come with braces that cover opposite corners of the lifter arms to support the roof if the lifters were to give way. Hope this helps.

Keep the dealer in mind when you make your decision. Quality of the dealer after the sale can be more important than the minor feature differences between pop ups.
