Got several, but I'll tell about a friend's dog first.
Mandy the mini-doxie.
Mandy was truly a mini - tiny little thing.
She had an interesting "quirk".

Our friend (in OR) had a nice deck with well-worn (smooth) river rock of all sizes on the sloping ground below the deck. The sizes ranged from small marble
to "softball size" and larger.

Pick up a small rock toss it a few feet away - Mandy would return it to where
she felt it belonged. She never tired of this. It was not a game of fetch. The rocks always went back where "they belonged" -
not to the person who tossed 'em.
As the size of the rock progressed, if Mandy couldn't pick up the rock due to
the size or weight - she would push it with her nose to its prior location.
When you were finished - she was too. It wasn't like "playing ball".

Only Mandy knew why.

Hi,

Well, I have another pet story for you. We have had a lot of fun reading your funny pet stories and do enjoy the funny stuff our fur kids do!

We live in the East Bay Hills just across from San Francisco. I state this just so you can get a picture of the terrain. The home is placed on a steep hill with a small amount of land behind. In fact, when I first purchased this home in 1981, our newspaper was delivered by a girl riding her horse.

Well, fast forward many years. I was sitting on my sofa and noticed that my neighbor was walking in my back yard. I asked, what are you doing here Jack? He stated that there is a horse in your back yard, Dawn. Well, in disbelief, I looked over the fence and there was a horse there right on my hill! Now, we might be in the hills, but this is hardly a rural area. Not zoned for large livestock and is a residential area.

Later that evening, I was on the phone telling a friend about the horse in my yard and I heard a man’s voice call Mam, Mam. I asked “Who are you?” He stated that he was here to take care of his horse. I asked “Do you always park your horse in other people’s yards?” He stated that he had put “Thunder” in my yard because he did not have the money to feed him and thus he was eating the grass on my hill. Because I have always loved horses, I gave Thunder’s owner a water hose and allowed him to leave his horse in my yard. A few days later, Thunder was gone.

But that is not the end of this tale. Thunder returned for a few years after that. I always put the water hose out there for him. Then one year he never came back and I don’t know why. We sure miss Thunder the grass cutting horse as Kevin now is in charge of “weed control”.

Regards,
Kevin & Dawn

Many years ago we had two Chow Chows' a very quiet male called Jackson and a very mischievous female call Bessy Bear. We had a dog door in the rear door so they could let themselves in and out when we were at work and we had a lock on the back gate. One day we came home from work and our male neighbour said that he had found both dogs outside the front door and had lifted them (65 lbs each) back over the back fence because the gate was locked. We could not figure out how they got out of the house. This happened one more time and we were bewildered about what was happening. Getting ready for work the next morning I walked into the living room to see Bessie Bear sliding the small screen window under the picture window open with her nose, on the way to escaping, it was a 4 foot drop into evergreens. After that we always made sure we locked the inside window.

Another story about Bessie Bear. Our next door neighbour had a small poodle who used to take all their dirt laundry and spread it around the living room when they were away. One day she was expecting her minister after work and he arrived at her house before she did. When she opened the front door there was all her dirty laundry spread around the house. I laughed myself crazy about this. Then we got Bessie Bear, we had a doggie door so she could let herself in and out. We had a side garden that was visible from the road, walking home from work one day I was shocked to see that she had brought all our dirty underwear out and had scattered them all over the side garden. Didn't think it was so funny when it was me!

I'm sure everyone loves their pets as much as I do, but I gotta tell ya what my kitty, Rusty has put me through in 3 years of fulltime RV traveling.
1. Moved out of apt in Tucson, into RV, with my 3 kitties, and stayed in a few local RV parks till I finished up stuff, so we could leave the area for good. Needless to say, my outdoor kitties faced a whole new set of challenges, and I was terrified of losing them, but had no idea how to force them all to stay inside. Eventually, it happened, and I couldn't find Rusty, and I planned to stay until I found him. After almost 2 weeks, I had to leave for repairs, and into another park. But I refused to give up, and one of many nights I spent driving around the previous location, walking, calling, crying... THERE HE WAS! Looking like he never missed a meal after 2+ weeks around this desert wash!! I was so relieved!

2. About a year later, I was in NM, and had to return for an appt. in Tucson. I took my kitties in the car, and left the RV in NM. I stayed in a motel for 2 days, hiding the kitties from mgmt. Ready to return, I stopped for gas, and to let the kitties have some freedom. Sure enough, Rusty went into some abandoned building, and I waited all night in my car, got a motel room there the next night, and waited until the next night before having to drive back to NM without him. When I got there, I hooked up the car, and drove the RV BACK to Tucson (300 miles roundtrip), and within an hour he appeared!! We drove BACK to NM that night.... whew!

**My kitties proved they were good travelers, but by now, I was extremely aware of the fact that they liked to 'check out places' just like I did, and I constantly monitored their wherabouts. At night, they always wear 'glow in the dark' necklaces, so I can see them.

3. Last summer, I camped in Crestone, CO, and then took off toward NM. I stopped at a campground about 100 miles away, and even though I always do a "kitty check" before leaving, I knew, when Rusty failed to "pop out" to check out the new spot, that I left him behind. SO... yes, I unhooked the car, drove 100 miles back to Crestone, where he was waiting. He seemed a bit indignant that I took off without him LOL, but I put him in the car, said goodbye AGAIN, and drove BACK to our latest site, where the RV and other kitties waited.

I know this probably sounds irresponsible, to let my kitties out, but I'm looking at him laying by me now, and know that I love all my kitties dearly. You have to agree, in light of the energy, time, and miles I've travelled to make sure he remains a part of my family..

We are now a little more settled, and plan to stay in So. NM, and I love the fact that I don't have to worry as much.
My 16yo cat Nicholas, died last year, after being diagnosed with 'kidney failure', but we had 16 years of friendship! (I only lost him once, when he apparently got out at the dump station)
I picked up another kitty, Silver, from a shelter in Pinetop, AZ, last year, and he's a lovable addition to our adventurous 'cat' family. Rusty's definitely mellowed at 8yo, while Silver does the hunting. Thank God he understands 'birds' are NOT acceptable, but he routinely brings in lizards to play with, and just like my others, he rarely injures them. My part of the routine is rescuing the lizard, and returning it to the rocks, where it scurries away. Then I watch Silver, still convinced the lizard's inside, as he diligantly searches the carpet, and any escape routes, for the next few hours.

Gotta love 'em, especially curled up in bed with me at night!
Thanks for letting me tell my story!

Unfortunately, all my 'kitty pics' are on my computer, so I can't upload any to share right now.

Oh my gosh, I don't wonder why you couldn't find her. What a great picture. Bless her, she's such a little cutie!

Would like to thank all for the great stories, it is so nice to read stories of laughing moments with deer furry friends, present or departed.

I will share with you the story of a Valentine day. Background first on Miko: a very spoiled tabi cat, my best friend for nearly 17 years, with quite an unusual character….loving but had many pet peeves….One of them, he could not stand anything on the kitchen counter. I had to keep the kitchen counters empty and spotless, except for the coffee maker. It was heavy and he had never figured how to throw this one on the ceramic floor. All the rest of the objects ended up broken on the floor!
When Miko turned 15 years, I inherited my mom’s cats, BelGrisou and ElGato which were just starting to settle in the condo with us. Angels, sweet, shy and calm, it was their first Valentine with us.

My dear boyfriend is coming back from work, it’s 6:00pm. I have decorated the dining room, prepared a beautiful table, flowers, (no food in yet), a gift/card…. and as I hear the car pull into the driveway, I poured two glasses of special red wine, and I am prepared to surprise my dear lover.
The door open, and dear lover comes in and turn towards the sound of broken glass.

Miko had decided that the glasses did not go well on the table and had thrown them on the floor. Having ceramic tiles in living and dining room, the glasses had shattered in thousand of little pieces. Belgrisou so scare, had run through the pieces of glass to hide. Elgato was already hiding, spooked by the noise and Miko was strolling through the broken glass, looking at his mess! We were still flabbergasted, but closed the entry door, looked for the cats, carried them to the bathroom to wash their little feet…we wanted to be sure none had suffered a cut, and put them in the office, door closed.
We had now to picked up all the glass pieces and vacuum the room. As we start the awfull job, the vacuum broke. Dear boyfriend had to repair the vacuum,in order to finish our cleaning job. We then washed the floor and had to throw away the shaggy bed of Belgrisou (there was too much glass particulates in it...she will be sad). We scrubbed the wine stains from the beige cushions of the love seats and double check that there was no pieces of glass left.

By the time all the mess was clean up it was nearly 9:00pm and we could finally enjoy our wine and food on this Valentine day.

It’s been 6 months Miko has left us, Gat and Gris are sweethearts, but sometimes I would not mind having to pick up a fallen object from the counter!

It was Christmas Eve and I was grieving the loss of my best friend who was killed by a drunk driver on the 21st of December. The Christmas tree was naked, no decorations anywhere and the few gifts I had managed to purchase were tossed under the tree in the store bags, tags and all. Misha, my kitty, was very tuned in to my grief and tried to comfort me constantly.

I walked passed the tree and noticed something "different" sitting atop one of the bagged gifts. It was 1/2 of a squirrel that she had lovingly deposited for me as a gift. She was so proud of herself, purring an rubbing and admiring the gift.

I spent a couple of hours looking for the other half, but didn't find it.

I will never forget my Misha. A stray, she rushed into my house without any invitation on a cold winter day and never left. I guess she picked me. We were together for 16 years until her cancer left me with no option but to let her go.
