Rob, the cream of wheat is going to be thinned down then pureed in the "Magic Bullet". Terry is being a great nurse. Yep, I've been walking as much as I can with my two "funky" knees. We've got a camping trip scheduled in around 5 weeks, I hope I'm ready for it. We then have another trip the following weekend too. Camping season in Texas for us is about to begin for us again in earnest.

I've also gotten two excellent cookbooks specifically targeted for patients of weight-loss surgery. I highly recommend them. Both books have excellent recipes that work for pureeing, small portions, hight-protein, low-fat and with "good" carbs.

  • Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery - Levine - ISBN# - 101569244537

  • Recipes for Life After Weight-Loss Surgery - Furtado - ISBN# - 101592332269

Both books were in stock at my local Barnes and Noble. Amazon also has them in stock. Each recipes gives you all the nutritional breakdown plus the time frame when you eat the recipe after surgery.

Last night was a very good night, I slept through the whole night without too much discomfort. Yea! Each day is getting better.

Take care,

Chuck

We'll get through this together. It's going to be a great journey. One thing I was told was NOT[/b[ to weigh for the first six weeks after surgery since this was a time to heal.

Yep, right now you are to be resting, taking it easy and sticking to whichever diet you are supposed to follow - but you'll be shocked the first time the Dr's office weighs you!!!

Barry and Karen,

Yep, that's what I've heard, there's a lot of excitement when you do weigh for the first time! I am so looking forward to it. Thank you so much for your reply and continued support.

I started pre-op on july 7th, weight 365..surgery on the 22nd.....weighed me at 350.......today 334... first fill is on the 18th...... i have been doing my eliptical, walking, ang just messing around with dumbells, as well as some sit ups..

the more weight you see come off the more motivated/dedicated you are..and the longer you go not eating like you used to, the easier it gets.

hey chuck, have you ever watched the biggest loser show?? we used to... it would get me motivated for a few hours....

While I haven't been on here for some time, I caught this thread as it pertains to me. I had gastric bypass 8 years ago (not many people know it!) I have lost 110 lbs and gained back about 10.

From experience, there are several things that rapid weight does:
1. hair loss - it eventually grows back (unless it wasn't there to begin with!)

2. gray skin (for awhile, until you stop losing so quickly)

3. bad fingernails (I still have problems)

4. dumping - yes, it is a true thing and it does suck! Just had it happen again on Fri (wish my boss would stop buying Jack in the box milkshakes for all of us on Fridays)

5. There are foods that I just cannot eat (certain dairy like ice cream - need to be very near a bathroom)

6. There are some very personal adjustments too - such as body image, personality issues.

I did not lose as much weight as I would have liked to, but I am also not unhealthy. Alot of people that I know that have had this surgery are unhealthy. I am a size 12 - down from a 24. I no longer have problems standing for long periods of time.

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to pm me.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your post. Fortunately, and the reasons I chose the Lap-Band over gastric bypass, is that I will not experience the symptoms you have experienced. With the Lap-Band, you don't have the accelerated weight-loss like you do with gastric bypass. Also, not all gastric bypass patients experience the symptoms you described.

Take care and good luck in your weight loss journey.

Hey Chuck. Sounds like the procedure went well. Rose and I have y0u in our thoughts and prayers as you recover. I'm still not back to work. Now, there's another issue with the eye and I may have to have more surgery. I'll keep you posted. Tell Terry "Howdy" from us and hope to see you out and about later on.

Hi Cat,

I am doing well, healing very nicely. I worked 1/2 days Wednesday and Thursday. Tomorrow I'm going to try and make it through the whole day, we;ll see. I'm real tired of liquids! Next Friday I get to go to the "mushy" food stage. It'll be such a relief. Monday I have a post-op appointment with my surgeon. We have nothing planned for the weekend so I'll be resting and relaxing. We've got rein scheduled everyday through next Tuesday. It'll be a welcome sight.

Take care and thank you so much for checking in. I sure would love some of those chocolate chip cookies you made that one time at Loyd Park!

Dick & Rose,

Thank you so much for the very thoughtful get well card. I appreciate it. As you can read for my post above, I am getting along very well. I've just got to be careful getting up and down. It's amazing how much you use your stomach muscles. It's ouch if I don't do it the right way.

Take care and we'll see you in October at Lake Somerville. BTW, how is you eye doing?
