Hi All,

We'll tomorrow is my 1st "fill". This is where they will start tightening down my band gradually to make a smaller opening for food to pass to the stomach.

I'll post again later on this weekend to let all know how the "fill" went and how I'm doing.

I started my journey out at, I believe, 386#. Right now I'm at 354#. Not too bad, but it'll definitely get better as time goes on.

I'll be looking for your update Chuck! I hope that you are feeling well and that your fill procedure is a success.

Sounds like next time I see you, I'll be seeing less of you.

Hi Cat,

Yep, that should be the case, you should be seeing less of me.

The fill procedure is really no big deal and shouldn't affect me much except for curbing my appetite. They use a syringe filled with saline solution to adjust the band's tightness around the top of the stomach. Also as you lose weight, the band has to be tightened since your stomach is shrinking.

Like I've mentioned in the past, it normally take 2-4 fills to get your band to the optimal setting. They don't want to get too much of a restriction or you can't drink or eat anything. That's not a real good place to be. If you get to that point, you've got to have an emergency "un-fill" of the saline solution.

Knowing the way Steve and I cook I'm sure there will be plenty of Blue Bell and cobbler available. And yep, since I won't be eating that much, you can have my share as well.

Just wanted to let you know your post has helped bring me back in line. Over the last year I have lost 50 lbs and have 45 to go. And when I start to get off task your post will come up and help me get refocused.

Hi Jeff,

I am glad to be an "influencer" in your life. All of the fine folks on RV.net are my "influencers." We all need a little push now and then to keep us on track.

To be honest I haven't been doing too well about making wise choices when eating. I've taken advantage of my "3 weeks of freedom". Starting today, it's time to buckle down and do the right thing.

Terry and I are even headed back to the gym starting Saturday morning. We're going to shoot for twice a week to start off with and maintain that before we add additional days on.

Take care and I wish you the best of luck in your weight loss journey. The weight didn't come on overnight and it isn't going to overnight as well. Keep your eye on your final goal, you'll eventually achieve it.

Well all, I had my first "fill" today. I found out that I had a 14 cc band. (In other words, the band will hold 14 cc's of saline for a restriction,) The PA (physician's assistant) put 4½ cc's of saline in my band. The "fills" are done gradually so you can get to the fine line of the proper restriction.

For the next 24 hours I'm back on liquids, the "soft" foods for 24 hours. After that I'll be back on reduced portions of regular foods. The next leg of my journey has started.

Congratulations on getting the first fill under your belt...sorry, couldn't resist ...and getting to the next stage.

Thank you for describing what is involved in each procedure.

Hi Corgihauler,

Technically the fill was "above the belt"! It is indeed nice to get to this next stage. Although I have enjoyed the last 3 weeks of freedom.

I go home around 5:00 last night and wasn't hungry for dinner. I woke this morning and wasn't hungry for breakfast. That's very unusual for me. I always want something for breakfast.

Forcing yourself to eat is one of the problem "bandsters" face. Most of the time you're not hungry but you've still got to maintain a minimum level of daily protein.

I've got to maintain around 60 grams of protein each day. If I don't my hair can get real brittle and start falling out. With my middle-aged baldness, I really don't need any additional help.

Take care and stay in touch,

C & T
