I used RIT to brighten the cloth seats in an old car. Once completely dry, it did not come off on clothes.

Good job on the carpet, it looks brand new.

To one poster above: I do not think that using a steam vac will work as the dye will not have enough time to saturate the fibers.

How long after you spray and brush in do you have to wait before vacuuming?

I'm tired of shampooing and never being satisfied. This might be the end-of-the-summer project I've been waiting for.

After seeing yours....just did mine, same color. Although it only looks half as good as new ,it looks ten times better than it did. Thanks for the idea.

WOW that looks great. He did one heck of a job.

Ditto. If anything I will dye our carpet darker if need be in the future. Not sure why a manufacturer would lay down a light beige carpet in a MH anyway.

Congrats on your new & improved look.

We too were inspired by your post as we have beige carpet that looks dirty two minutes after a cleaning. We went to a darker brown, RIT Cocoa. I mixed a packet with a gallon of distilled water and then used a spray bottle. The only problem we had was consistency in color with spraying. Once finished we noticed a couple of light areas which will have to be re-done. The wife is VERY happy, thanks for the post and technique.

2Sam, Where did you find Rit? I can't find it anywhere in the stores around here.

I too was inspired, so I did our coach carpet. Used RIT Tan. Came out great. Thanks for the idea.
