We will be on the Alaska highway in about 5 days. Can anyone give the best places for finding diesel at a "reasonable price"? We've done some searches and found the prices in some larger cities but where are the best places to fuel up along the Highway while in Canada?
Thanks for any input.

No place, of course, is "reasonable" anymore, but it's easier to tell you where to avoid, as most places are competitive. Avoid Muncho Lake entirely, Liard Hot Springs Lodge, Watson Lake entirely, Junction 37, and the Petro-Canada as you near Whitehorse.

Last year we found the bigger towns seemed to have the best prices. Probably due to competition and the fact that they didn't have to use their own generated power. If you keep it full at the towns, you don't need to worry in the bush.

Paid $4.84 today for diesel in Fairbanks.I tend to keep and extra fillup in my aux tank and only fill in major centres where chances are fuel is more *reasonably* priced.

That is a switch from last year ... Liard Hot Springs was more than Toad River. And in the past Liard has been significantly higher than other spots.
Although we did notice Toad River was higher (in relation to others) than it was in previous years. The clerk in the store thought they were too high as well. We've always stopped at Toad River to fuel up ... might not this year now that I see this.

Having the auxilliary tank really comes in handy in playing the 'try to get best price' game along with various discount cards.
We saw >$5/gal diesel between Denali & Talkeetna a couple days ago. Didn't even lighten up on the pedal as we went by.

True, none of the prices are great, but at least they're much better than I'd heard recently: expect $8/gal. in Alaska! Yikes!
Thanks, brinasmemaw, for your diligent record keeping; it's very helpful, as is the comment from explorenorth. You tried that good sushi restaurant in Whitehorse yet? Yum!
