We drove from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon a few years ago. We did it in a day. We stopped and had dinner in Williams AZ. The ride from Williams to the Grand Canyon was flat and there wasn't any traffic. We stayed in a in the National park campground just outside the village. You could take the bus from there. I think you can tour the canyon by bus. Sorry I forget the name of the campground. It may have been Camper Village?
Have a great trip!

We stayed at Trailer Village a few years ago...we made our approach from the east side of the canyon. We were there in July and got in without reservations.....even got a second night (Friday) by asking. Tram was just outside the entrance and took you around the south rim. Great time and we'll go back again.

My wife and I did it last summer. We got a package deal staying at the Grand Canyon RV park next to the train station. Don,t remember the rate but not bad. The train ride was fun and you have all day. Just wish we had done it 20 years ago when we had the kids. The RV park is only 2 years old now and very clean and well kept. It is also walking distance into down.

Thanks for the wealth of info so far, especially with driving to the park from williams and some of the campgrounds inside and outside the park...now it seems that we would also would like to stop and see the skywalk which I now find is not in that location, so any help with rv parks and transportation near the skywalk at the west rim would also be helpful.

We stayed at the Grand Canyon Railroad RV Park in March. Bought the package which included the train trip. I wouldn't recommend it. The park is very clean and well kept, but it's like a clean, well kept parking lot. Not one bit of vegitation in sight. The train takes forever to get to the Grand Canyon and the scenery is pretty boring on the way. It doesn't give you much time in the G.C. either. I'd rent a car and go your own way. JMHO.

If you stay in the park, at Trailer Village, you can utilize the park's shuttle bus. It comes right in to the cg. FHUP's, too; see if you can get in!! Enjoy, Kathy

We just got back from the canyon. Drive from Williams is no problem at all. We stayed at a RV park just outside the park near the airport. OK, but next time we would elect to stay at the Camper Village inside the park. We stopped there while on the shuttle bus and it looked nice.

If this is the one you're speaking of... camper village ....then I must say that these reviews aren't very encouraging.....

By comparison, here are some comments on Trailer Village....just in case you might go back there again...

Also need information on the campgrounds at Dolan Springs...if anyone has stayed there....evidently it's the gateway to the skyway on the west rim. Whether I go up there or not, I would like a stopover somewhere between vegas and williams az.

The road (64) is fairly flat. Stay at the Canyon campgrounds, in the NP. Be very careful on 64; its a very dangerous road. Use your headlights and watch for cars passing at high speed. I have traveled that road hundreds of times, animals may also dart out. If you want a pace to stay off the 40, between Vegas and Williams, then try Blake RV Ranch, about 12 miles east of Kingman. And Laughlin/ Bullhead City will give you more bang for the buck than Vegas; try Silver View Rv Resort in Bullhead.
