We just went from CT to MI in our new to us 99 Four Winds 28A on a Chevy chassis. I used my lights to signal a trucker that it was safe to pull back in on the Interstate, and it shut down my cruise control. Is this normal? This means I have no cruise control at night?

Perhaps a bad ground or crossed wire is backfeeding the brake light circuit.

I agree that sum1 is on the correct thought path. There was a tread on that once. It gives a signal like you hit the brakes or a huge bump perhaps. I guess you could just run on dim.

My last C did the same thing. I was also told it was a ground, but never was able to find the problem and have traded it off since then..

If the brake lights come on the cruise control is cancelled. Look for a short from the tail light circuit to the brake lights. Check the bulb sockets.

I'll have to play around with this a bit. I don't drive much at night, but, it's just plain annoying. Thanks for the ideas. I'll just have to find some time to play with this a bit.

Poor ground, Tail lights
The cruise control has a number of sensors.. One of them senses power across the brake light switch.. In normal operation there is 12 volt across the brake light switch but if you step on the brakes.. Well, then there should be zero volts ACROSS the switch (Both sides are at 12 or more likely 13.6, volts, differential is thus zero)
So if your brake lights are burned out... (The are the path to ground) your cruise won't work
If the brake light switch shorts out The cruse control won't work
And if you have a bad ground on your tail lights EIther bulb to socket or socket to chassis, When you activate your tail lights.. THEY "Back feed" the circuit and your cruise control won't work
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

If your bright light switch (Flash to Pass) is on the turn signal lever like most others now days are, along with the cruise control, chances are you have a broken wire in the turn signal stem assembly. Replacing the stem would cure the problem.
