I am over my CCC by at least 200 lbs but under GVWR & GCVW.
I have included my hitch in this calculation to be fair.
The rear kitchen and the placement of the axels is what I believe gives this particular unit it's lighter pin weight.
It really surprised me how well it tows. It's like it's not even there. We stepped up from a 26' TT (6,00lbs loaded) and there was never a time I felt this comfortable towing. That may just be the difference in a TT and a fiver. I can't say for sure.
We recently camped up by Shaver lake. There is a really nice grade going up there and it pulled it very well. I never once felt like the engine was working too hard. At one pont the grade is 11%.
We really like the trailer. It fits us much better that the TT did. The power awning is a hoot. The first timer we unfurled it I had every guy in the park asking us about it. :-)
And yes, I'm sure you could tow it.

If you have a DC like I do, you should have a bit more CCC than 1,100 lbs. I have a TRD package and the cargo is listed at 1,475 inside the door. Check it on yours, it might be higher than you stated. I always thought the Crew Max trucks had around 1,100 lbs CCC. True though, the rear kitchen helps lower the pin weight.
BTW...Shaver Lake is nice...but I have only been there on motorcycle.
howdy, I owen a 06 double cab 4x4 and like it very much, however, even if you have the larger engine, I would not pull a fifth wheel, unless it were a small one. It towes my 22' TT very well, but with a 5er you are actually carrying more trailer weight on the TV. I have seen folks towing 5ers with a Tundra, but as a owner I would not do it my self.

Egad, why not? Yep I have about 1000lb on the bed of the truck. I have a 4.7L engine. Have pulled long hills, in 30-50mph wind, and in the desert heat without any problems.
I'd much rather tow a fiver than any travel trailer that was longer than my truck. But, that starts another battle

portablevcb you may be right about the newer Tundras, what I am towing with 2400yamaha in truck bed and wifes bike, and extra gen gas, I am right at 1200# under my max GVW rating. So not having looked into the new ones there may be a big differance to my 06
I do have an 06, 4.7L But, knowing that I am near truck limits we only put us and the dog in the truck (snacks and other small stuff). The bed gets the lawn chairs and such. We are about as careful loading the fiver as I would be with a TT as far as fore and aft weight distribution goes. Fiver is under 6000lb loaded so I am not pushing the limits.

Thanks Kent, You are correct. I meant to type 1400 lbs. I amend my post.
We stayed at Camp Edison. Very nice. Cool in the evenings too.
The truck went up the 4-lane very well. It impressed me.
Some of those curves near shaver lake were fun. I met another trailer coming down as I was going up....there was very little room for error. That was my first time pulling the new fiver through turns that tight. It was a challenge to keep it on my side of the road.

Do people REALLY believe the television commercials for the Tundra????? Come on!!
I heard they are filming a commercial right now where they use one to pull the Titanic out of the ocean.
Get real people!! It's a 1/2 ton!!
