Has anyone taken their golden camping with them? We take our Jack Russell and he loves it. He will run through his e fence if we don't take him. He sleeps with us in the TT.
Our Golden has never been camping with us. He is an outside dog he loves being with us and sitting with us when we are outside. My main concerns are bedtime. Where does your big dogs sleep? I don't want him in the camper with us there is just no room it is a 13 ft camper and he is 70+ lbs. He sleeps outside on our porch here at home and usually doesn't bark but new surroundings and sounds I don't know.
My parents can come by daily here at the house and check on him while we are gone if we don't take him. He tends to damage things when we are gone over night or longer cause he is bored. What would you do?
He is so cute and loveable hate to leave him home alone but we are afraid it may be a mistake to take him with us.

crate him at night,
you can lock the crate to the trl, and if you think it is needed, even lock the crate door.
he will get used to being crated.
Hunting is not a hobby. It is much more life sustaining than that.

Our 2 Goldens come with us everywhere! Our Male is 100# our petite Female is 90#. We travel with 2 vehicles because of 2 teenagers and 2 Goldens. They love to go camping. When they see us loading up, they will go wait by the door and beg to get in the truck. We have a slightly different setup though. We have a 31' TT with a wide open floor plan and they sit outside when we're out and they come inside when it's time to go to bed. Our male usually sleeps on the floor or occasionally the couch. Our female will sleep under the overhang of the pedestal queen bed in the front of the camper. There is plenty of room. You just have to remember, if you get up in the middle of the night to use the rest room, you must watch for the 100# clump of Golden on the floor. If it's hot outside, they stay out for a while in the morning and then come into the AC. Later at night they can go back out. They rarely bark at anyone in the CG. We have had entire weekends that neighbors didn't even realize that we had 2 large dogs on the site.

IMO, If he is not use to spending time in a crate, this is going to cause him to bark, whine and realy cause you and your neighbors problems. If you are going to crate him, I would suggest you start the training now. Been there, done that....

I would give him a bath and keep him wherever you are. Yeah, he will make a big lump on the floor but goldens are so sweet and gentle - I'll bet you can find some way for everyone to adjust to his presence. If he is not accustomed to a crate, he (and your neighbors!!) will not like that arrangement, I'll bet. And apparently he feels abandoned if you leave him home. So try it. If is doesn't work out then go to plan B.

We had a golden for 13 yrs and we took her everywhere we could and wouldn't have thought to not take her camping. She loved it, she just slept on the floor of the camper or tent. We just had to be careful if we got up in the middle of the night.

Ours loves camping and is a great traveler. They are great dogs and you'll probably find the golden to be better behaved than the Jack Russel.
I'm sure he won't mind sleeping on the couch. ;=)

He has never been in a crate. I don't have one that big ha! ha!
so he will be tied up outside the whole time even bedtime if he goes with us. We are leaving in a week so not much time for training. No room on the floor and he's not housebroken.
