We take my son and daughter in-law's Golden with us on our RV trips. Sierra, the Golden adjusted just fine. She likes the motorhome better than being outside and she sleeps with her parents. I would say the biggest problem is shedding.

You are lucky to have a Goldie! I lost mine a year ago Jan and wish I had him to go with me. Let him sleep any where he wants inside and be glad you have him.

I would give him a bath and keep him wherever you are. Yeah, he will make a big lump on the floor but goldens are so sweet and gentle - I'll bet you can find some way for everyone to adjust to his presence. If he is not accustomed to a crate, he (and your neighbors!!) will not like that arrangement, I'll bet. And apparently he feels abandoned if you leave him home. So try it. If is doesn't work out then go to plan B.

Ditto!
We first started taking our Lab tent-camping with us. He was hooked and so were we! Talk about a lump on the floor! How about a tent? Good thing he's a snuggler.
Now that we have the TT, Hershey has a choice of the queen bed with the DW and I, or the couch, or the floor, or wherever he decides to klunk!
I would suggest keeping the golden inside with you, especially if there are other critters roaming around at night. A crated dog outside my react like a caged animal if something decides to take a peek. Mad mojo IMHO.
Good luck!

I wouldn't want to have to have a vote as to who sleeps inside or out as either the DW or myself would be out in the weather. I am not too sure how Chance would vote but his would be the deciding 2 to 1 vote.

We moved!! No more nasty neighbors, no more rotten parking. I am saving this picture just to remind myself how bad it was.

Hi,

Cassius, our older boxer was a natural at camping, so we never had to do anything with him. We started Tenting with him too!

Bruno started RVing at 9 months old.
My advice is to camp with your Golden in your driveway, weeks before your next trip.
We did this with Bruno. At night, Cassius takes the floor or couch and Bruno is tied to the table by a 6 foot leash. This way his puppy behavior does not wreak havoc at midnight. Sometimes both will just sleep with us on the queen bed.
Goldens are good dogs and I see many of them on the road.
I don't think you would have problems.
Again, do a test run in the driveway or local CG.

Happy Camping,

Ours loves camping and is a great traveler. They are great dogs and you'll probably find the golden to be better behaved than the Jack Russel.
I'm sure he won't mind sleeping on the couch. ;=)

Just in my experience of the 2 breeds, I'll second this comment.

Our Beagles both sleep inside in crates. The crates are on the bed during the day, and in the living area when we go to bed.

Personally, I can't even imagine having a pet tied up for the night, alone outside, in an unfamiliar campground. I'm surprisesd nobody has mentioned this.

On whimstock's comment and I am not sure if it is towards me.
The table I mentioned is the table Inside our 5er. Never Ever, would I tie a dog to the outside of Anything, let alone while Rving when I am not there with them.

Great looking Beagles by the way.

No, it was in reference to this post:

He has never been in a crate. I don't have one that big ha! ha!
so he will be tied up outside the whole time even bedtime if he goes with us. We are leaving in a week so not much time for training. No room on the floor and he's not housebroken.

Thanks for the nice words about the Beagles.

We had a 17.5' fifth wheel that compared in size to an 11' camper. Our dearly departed 100 lb Kuvasz and our present 100 lb mutt both enjoyed it a great deal. Sure, floor space was tight, and we bobbed and weaved around each other, but we worked it out. The dogs didn't care how much space they had; they were just happy to be along with the pack.

Last year we drycamped/boondocked three weeks with 100 lb dog and 7 lb cat plus two humans in that little RV. It was a great trip! Bedtime involved everyone claiming a corner of the queen bed, and sometimes DH didn't have his corner when he returned from his nighttime pee, but we all would reshuffle and go back to sleep.

This past March we bought a larger fifth wheel (25') and we all have a lot more space, but somehow I miss the weaving and bobbing in and around each other.

Quite likely your Golden will adapt to sleeping on the floor of your camper ... dog's job is to safeguard the pack and he'll adapt to whatever conditions there are. My vote is he goes along.
