In my opinion, there is no reason to take the dog with you if you have to crate it or tie it up outside 24/7. I would worry about a wild animal injuring or killing the relatively defenseless tied up dog.

We put our 90 pound Labs bed under the dinette and he would almost always go directly there when inside. He was generally out of the way there except when we were trying to eat. Then we simple made him move or used him for a foot warmer. Either way he did not care and was happy to simply be with us.

Our golden does go camping with us & sleeps at the foot of our bed every night. HE wouldn't have it any other way.
Not camping related, but we know a couple that has a wonderful golden that listens better than my own children. They don't allow him in the house so when they go to the cabin, he sleeps in the back of the pickup truck which has a cap. You never hear him complain & he seems quite happy to hop up in. Just a thought on what might work for you since your pup isn't used to being indoors at night now, it might enjoy the truck & he gets to come along.

I don't understand having a dog that you tie up even at home. Why have a family pet and then leave it outside chained up all it's life ?

DO NOT LEAVE your poor dog tied up outside at night!! Good grief.. how would you feel if you were left outside alone in the dark in a strange place, not to mention some roving critter could attack him. If he is not a full fledged member of your family, why have him at all. I don't understand why you have him outside at your home either. Of course he loves sitting by the family, he's outside by himself most of the time.
Dogs are very social animals and being kept outside and not with the family is torture for them. It's no wonder he's destructive. Why can't he come in the house and be with the family on a regular basis? I can't understand people who have a dog sitting outside looking in at them all the time.... the dog wants nothing more than to be with you...
If the dog is not going to be allowed inside the rig during the day or at night, leave the poor thing at home, at least he is familiar with that.

IMHO you should leave him home with your dogsitters. he will not be happy tied up outside all night, and could quite possibly come to harm. We do take our golden Chelsea with us camping all the time, in our PUP, but she is always by our side and sleeps inside with us, either on the floor or on the couch. She is a big reason we decided to take up camping again after several years of non-camping. We love traveling and visiting places, but it wasn't possible to take her along. Now we can :-). BUT, we took the time to acclimate her to the PUP, slept several nights in camp driveway, and took beginning trips close enough to home to take her home if needed. She thinks it's great now, and we have been complimented several times on how quiet and well-behaved she is. She's a big mush, like all goldens :-).

We always take our 4 dogs with us. 2 gorgeous Goldens and 2 beautiful Boston Terriers. They are alllllllllllll house dogs. All 4 sleep in bed with us. We adore our dogs.
PLEASE DONOT leave your precious baby tied or crated outside. Too many things could go wrong!!!!!!! Campgrounds would not allow it anyway.
Goldens are such loving dogs that he/she will adapt to the small area because they love their humans sooooooooo much. You will adapt as well. It will just be abit cozy.

Well, we made it back. We decided to leave him home with the dog sitter and some special doggie treats and he did just fine. He is on the wireless fence so he isn't tied up when he is outside. We have the Jack Russell that he plays with to keep him company and we are outside alot. He normally just lays on the porch in the shade.
Thanks for all your help.
