We have a 2004 301 Cougar TT - took it out Memorial day weekend and all was great, except for the battery power to get the fridge going on gas (electric ignite) for the trip home. Realized if we weren't hooked up to electric, the battery wasn't being used, even for lights, etc. It is a brand new battery and the slide works whether or not we are hooked up to shore electric. We have checked the fuses and all is well there. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

The only thing I can come up with is the igniter is not creating spark. Open the back of the fridge thru the outside access panel, have the DW try and ignite the fridge and see if there is a spark. You have to look around or over the burner barrier to see the spark.

But, the fridge lights fine on shore power, just not when we unplug from shore power? I'm stumped on this one!

Are you on electric or gas when hooked up to shore power? If your frig goes to electric mode a heater element turns and the gas portion, including the igniter, is not used.
Also check voltage to the circuit board both hooked up and stand alone. With a fully charged battery you should only see a slight difference.

You need a certain level of volts for the igniter to work. When my batteries (old) are low, I can't light mine - plug into shore power, and the gas function works. In spite of being a new battery, it may not be that good or being fully charged. Also, check for gas flow at your stovetop.

The fridge and lights are powered off the distribution panel. The slide is probably powered through a separate fuse direct off the battery. You need to check the power connection from the battery to the distribution panel. Including the main fuse near the battery and any battery off switch.

I would start by checking the battery connections, then move on to the fuse panel and make sure you have power there. Check the fuses.

All above is true. Also, is the trailer new to you? If the fridge won't light due to mis-set gas flow you could have this issue too.

From your description, it sounds to me like you have a blown fuse or your converter is faulty. My last RV had 2 slides which drew power for the hydraulic motor through a seperate circuit breaker. I'm not sure about this, but I think many power converters will disconnect the battery from the 12 volt stuff when the RV is plugged in so it connect it to a charging circuit. If yours has seperate wires going to the battery and the electrical panel, make sure they both have 12 volts present when the RV is unplugged. If not, you may have a bad converter.

Hard to say from your description but I'll take a stab at it. If the shorepower is disconnected and you do NOT have battery power, you may have a disconnect switched off. The slide would still work if it is wired to battery before the disconnect switch. When shorepower is connected you are powered by the converter.
Let us know when you figure it out so we can all learn.
