While enjoying the wonderful Memorial Day week stay at Henderson Beach State Park, FL, this week, I decided to climp up on the roof to do a visual inspection of my our 14 month old Sydney 31FRKS fiver roof.

What I discovered alarmed me somewhat - especially since the unit is 14 months old, I figure it's our of warranty. On the trailer right side, under the rubber roof, the roof decking is not fastened down where it meets the side wall. It is like this in 2 places - between 2 of the boards. It has not punctured the rubber membrane, however, I think it should be fixed. I hae done a few searches and found that this can happen on any rv due to various reasons. Seems the most common is shoddy workanship. However, at any rate, I'd like to have it repaired.

Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do to repair it? Am I correct in the assumption that it is out of waranty now at 14 months old? Thanks for you help. PCM

Hi I think you have a 10 or 12 year warranty on a roof? ~~Especially due to a obvious manufacture defect?~~Sandy

I think the rubber roof membrane is warranted for 10-12 years. However, I do not think the structure is. PCM

I would contact my selling dealer and see if they will assist you. Sounds like a future nightmare developing so so it soon.

I have heard that the roof decking is glued-not screwed-to the roof rafters/trusses to avoid a screw back pooping loose and enetrating the rubber membrane. That makes sense.
Also, that the decking boards should not be fastened down at the waal edge to allow for flex.
If both these statements are true, then my situation is OK provided the decking board is not so loose it would raie to the point of poling through the rubber.
Any thoughts? PCM

Have seen this on a few units. Usually the deck is glued and screwed on the higher end units, just screwed on the more entry level ones. To fix, the edge cap will need to be removed, the rubber roof lifted back and the screws that "missed" replaced. Then reassembled. Should only be a 2-3 hour job for most shops, full day for do-it-yourselfers. A rolling ladder or "baker" staging makes it much easier. Your manufacturer should stand behind it as this is not wear and tear related.

I would agree. Do you think Keystone will stand behind this situation since it is 2 months out of warranty now??? PCM

My Keystone Cougar roof started leaking at 16 months, 4 months out of warranty and I was told by both my dealer and Keystone that I was on my own. Good Luck!

The ten year warranty on the roof only applies to the rubber deteriorating .

If they don't won't to cover it I would contact who you have it financed with and tell them what's going on.

I would call my dealer and Keystone today, every day that passes is a another day out of warranty

Yeah, I'm not getting my hopes up. My roof is not leaking. But the roof decking is detached from the trusses/rafters and pushing up the rubber membrane. Sound like a factory defect to me due to lack of poor glueing or staples. Don't know if that makes a difference. PCM
