Hi I need your help. Please let me know your opinion. I am looking at a brand new '06 Jayco Jayfeather 19H. It has a cosmetic defect that is pretty much unnoticable in the fiberglass. Otherwise it's brand new. The dealer is asking for $13,500. Is this a good price? Also I have a 2004 Honda Pilot to pull it with, do you think that is big enough to pull this trailer? I have never had a trailer before so I am a little nervous. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks!

I believe that price is high. I paid that for my 2007(new) with hitch setup. Also, I believe your Honda would not be enough. Your towing capacity is only 3500 for a trailer and that is what the 19H is dry(no gear). I wish sometimes I had something bigger, but then again with gas here at $4.19 my Explorer does the job fine.

The trailer as you described it, should be closer to $10,000 or less. But, at 5000 lbs ready to camp weight...or more, is your Pilot rated to tow that much? I looked it up, and the 2004 Pilot can only tow a 3500 lb trailer or (4500 lb boat, smaller front surface area). And the Pilot with a 106" wheelbase is not a good choice for a 20' plus long trailer, anyway. Sorry, but it won't work. Try a Pop-Up trailer.

My wife and I just purchased (February 2008) a brand new 2007 Jayco Jayflight 25RKS for $14,995.00. This was a winter sale and a close out price before the RV show. We are in Minnesota, so I am not sure what your prices are like compared to ours where we can only use the trailer about 5 months of the year. We also got the Equal-i-zer system and Prodigy brake control installed for that price.
Just my 2cents worth.......

Happy Camping and Good Luck!!

The Honda manual says 3500lbs for a trailer and 4500lbs for a boat. My Honda dealer told me it can tow a 4500lb trailer so I am not sure what to think. I guess I think I could pull it but I don't want to do anything to risk my family's safety. Dary I am also in Minnesota so I appreciate your insights on the price. It sounds like the consensus is $13.5K may be a little high. New I thought these sold for closer to $19K?

The price is high and your tow vehicle is not big enough. The new suggested price may have been 19,000 but you should never have to pay that much. Considering that a lot of trailer manufacturers start their new model yrs in June or July(2009 will be out before too long) , that trailer may be 3 yrs old.
As far as your tow vehicle goes, that trailer ,loaded up with options and all your stuff probably weighs closer to 4000 t0 4500 lbs. Then you have to consider the surface area of the front of the trailer acting like a sail being pulled behind your car.
Rule #1 in buying a trailer is don't believe everything a salesman tells you. They may not mean to tell a lie but some are not really educated as to what true towing capacity is.
I would suggest doing some reseach on this forum about towing and capacities. there is a wealth of info here.

I have a 2008 19H that I tow with an 04' Toyota 4runner V6. It's towing capacity is 5000 lbs. It tows the trailer just fine though you do know that it is back there. It has to work a bit going up the big hills. I wouldn't tow anything larger with it. That said, I do not think that you could reasonably tow the 19H with a towing capapcity of only 3500 pds. I do believe that it would put a considerable strain on your engine.

I would also suggest checking with RVdirect.com and get a price quote on a new trailer like you are looking at. I see they have a place in Buffulo NY where you can pick up the trailer.

In 2006, I bought a new 2006 Jayco 19H for $14000. I agree with those above. The asking price for the unit that you are looking at, is extremely high. Consider that it has been left out for the intervening years as well.

You may think that you can tow this with your Toyota and you may be able to for short distances at a low speed, but if you plan to travel very far or on highways, or get into a strong crosswind, I believe that you will be very concerned. Also, add in the weight of the additional equipment that you will want to keep on board.

Just my opinions

Different maker, but a brand new just-out-of-the-factory 2009 (oh nine) Roo 19 will run you $13,317.79 out the door. (Plus sales tax at home.)

The 19-footers are all pretty much the floor plan.
