Well I got a new to me truck today, after talking to the sales staff at the Dodge dealership and getting one big run around after another not to mention major sticker shock, I opted to head back to one of the used car lots where the sales guy we talked to last week treated us as people and without all the pressure the others did.
only one of the three trucks I mentioned in the last thread was still there when we arrived one other was out on a test drive. but there was a different 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 on the lot with only 64000 miles and the 5.9 Cummins.
After a small test drive the sales guy said that all his managers had already left for the day but said that if we wanted to take it home overnight and really drive it around we were more then happy to. So home it went went with us, the long way up over Colorado National Monument, out into the BLM desert dirt roads, and up and back of 80 miles of interstate driving (where according to the trip computer it averaged 17.8 MPG).
Then it was back to the house and loaded the camper on, it fits real good no mods to anything needed except for to lose some bed pocket anchors that were there.
The next morning we unloaded the camper and headed back to the sales lot they ran the numbers, we haggled, they ran the numbers, we haggled some more and I am now the owner of a new to me 2002 2500 quad cab 4x4 LWB.
The original window sticker was in the glove box and one of the options listed is a Camper group option a separate option is also listed for the towing group.
Does anyone here know what exactly the Camper Group option consisted of?
there was also the NOT recommended for slide-in campers paper with the original paperwork which I am guessing is because of the 4x4 added hight? it doesn't say why its not recommended.
Now really is a good time to get a great deal on a truck, I got this one for about $8000 under the kelly blue book value and had I not already felt good about how I was being treated and the perks they already thru in I might have been able to get it for less.
Plus they topped it off with 30 gallons of diesel before we left.
Monday it goes off to get the new Happi Jac tiedowns installed and I'll get some pictures posted too.
I just want to say thanks to everyone that contributed to my other post the info you gave really helped me out and it is greatly appreciated. you all really do make newbies like me feel at home here.

You will love that truck. I would suggest that as soon as you can get a fuel pressure gauge installed. There is a good chance that the lift pump is going or has gone South already. If you let that go too long it will cost you $2,000 for a new injection pump.

Raften,
In my first thread I did get a lot of warnings about the lift pump problem, so I am shopping for the pillar mounted gauges already I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a tranny temp gauge as well.
I ordered a spare lift pump already and most likely will install it when it gets here, and if good keep the present one for a backup.
Get a three hole gauge pod even if you don't fill the holes already. Given my experiance with lift pumps I would suggest a FASS instead of stock pumps. I went thru four before getting a FASS. If you decide to keep the stock setup I would suggest getting a kit from Geno's that allows you to move the pump back to the frame. I don't think it will save a stock pump but it makes changing them out much faster.
