My wife and I are thinking about a early August stop in Huntington Beach State Park, South Carolina. We do not have a tow to get around in. Is there much we can do right in the park? Reading the information on their website sounds like it might be possible to spend a few days just in the park hiking and walking the beach. Any infomation will be helpful. Thanks
HB state park is beautiful. There is a castle you can tour while there and many miles of bike trails. There are also 2 marshes.... one salt and one fresh. It is very interesting to see how they manage the marshes. There are gators, and a tone of birds to watch. My niece and nephew loved it. The beach is like any other MB state park beach.... absolutely beautiful. Plenty of shore line to walk and shells to collect. We are going for the July 4th week. I also found out that they recently paved all the CG roads. It is one of the nicest SP we go to.

Yes, I believe that you'll find pleanty to do and throughly enjoy your stay. I would reconmmend bug spray - depending on how the summer goes, the 'no-seeums' can be bad at times.

Just to add to what the others have posted, Brookgreen gardens is just across the major highway. I'm not real brave about biking and highways, but it is very do able. It has plays and tours,... Also at the RV Park there are bird watching tours, and alligator watches, and more.
This is one of our favorite places too. There is a bike path, almost completed to Murrell's Inlet, I think. In January 2007 it was almost done, so most likely you can bicycle into Murrell's Inlet. The park itself is great, with the nature center, ranger interaction, beach, etc. But if you want to enjoy the restaurants, etc., just ride your bikes to Murrell's Inlet and visit the "marsh walk". You will enjoy yourselves whether or not you leave the park.

Brookgreen Gardens is worth seeing. We spent a day there and didn't see it all.
One of our favorites. Bike trail takes you to Brookgreen Gardens (worth the trip) and the park is very well run. Counted eight gators sunning themselves on the rocks just off the bike trail on the causeway.
We just got back from Huntington Beach SP. We took our toad and didn't even start it. With the beach, hiking, biking, there's no need to leave, especially with the crowds in the area this time of year. Sites are hard to come by this time of year, so start looking for a reservation now.

Was down there a couple weeks ago, if you bike, the path into Murrell's Inlet is finished, plenty of places to walk to within the Campground also. This was our 1st trip to the Park and we can't wait to go back.
