I Don't know why I am worried, but I am. I want to take our crock pot with us on our next trip and cook while we are out sight seeing. But I am worried about leaving it plugged in and cooking while we are gone. Am I being silly ? I do have a friend who's trailer house burned down and it was because of the crock pot. So I think my fears are justified.

Is there somewhere outside were you can leave it. Plug it into a extension cord away from anything it could damage.

That would be my suggestion, too. Unless there are hungry raccoons in the campground?

We have been using a crock pot while camping for a few years now. I have left it on while away, both inside and outside. We have never had any issues. By the way, don't you love the crock pot liners! So easy to clean up now!!

Why don't you take your cock pot and place it on a ceramic tile of appropriate dimensions thereby insulating it from anything flammable on the bottom. The top of the pot should be away from anything low overhead so that rising heat will not be an issue either. A crock pot is no more dangerous in your RV than in your home assuming you take some necessary precautions. When you get home after a day of sightseeing and the aroma of fresh food fills the RV...Yum!

I think you are safe, if someone had a fire because of a crock pot there may have been other variables involved like a frayed cord or old crock pot etc. I haven't heard of any fires caused by crock pots. I guess we could worry about every electric appliance in our RV including the Air conditioner. You should be safe...if not...that is what insurance is for. Enjoy your home cooked meals in the crock pot. This post is making me hungry.

If you are worried about it,put the crockpot in the sink (sinks don't burn) and let it do its thing. Go sightseeing.
We have been using the crockpot in the house and rv for years and have never worried about it.

I think you are worrying in vain. Make sure the insurance is paid, protect anything that cannot be replaced and have fun!

Get a Thermal Pot at Amazon.com. You heat everything up to a rolling boil in the inner pot, then place that pot with lid on it inside the Thermal pot and close the lid. It cooks just like a crock pot WITHOUT ELECTRICITY, using it's own heat. Works great, like a charm, just like a crock pot. This is the one I have:

Crock pots don't start fires, bad wiring starts fires. Either you have it or you don't.
