Ipfau, you should be OK. We went to Assateague beach Sun for a few hours, and rolled thru Castaways. About half of the premium sites were open, and a patch of the others as well, down into the middle behind what I guess is going to be the office. There isn't much left to do, the biggest hurdle was probably the occupancy permit. Have fun.

I am going there from July 1-6 and will be in the premium section (forget the official name now). It's supposed to have it's own pool just for that section, bathhouse etc. I would like to know if that stuff is done being I am paying over $20/night extra for it! Does anyone know if both pools are up and running?

Give them a call. If they say they are open, then you have a spot. Stuff like landscaping may look a little ragged, but you are there to visit OC, not a campground.

Besides, where are you going to get a beach town site for the 4th of July now?

If it's listed in the Yellow Pages, the government shouldn't be messing around with it.

Yes, there are places to park your camper to stay at this campground now.
You can see some photos I took of the ocean front part of the campground here. This is the area that is the most completed.

Here is the link to the photos

I hope that this helps

I just called Castaways to check on my reservation. I was told that currently only sites 72-150, plus Club Castaways has been given an occupancy permit. I explained to them that I was coming quite a long way and I wanted to know if my site would be available. The person on the phone stated that my lot fell within the approved sites, so I should be ok. She also stated that they were very frustrated because the inspections are taking so long. She said that she could not guarantee if the pool would be finished or not. She mentioned that inspectors were supposed to come this Thursday 6/19 and it would be better if I checked this Friday for more information. Talk about cutting it close.

I'm a bit concerned now after reading these posts because we are supposed to be in site 313,so my wife has a call in for the manager to find out what in the world is going on.I took three days vacation for this trip and I can't wait until the very last minute to know if we got a site because if not we can make other plans.
