I will give them a call this evening as well to find out what happened with the inspections. Even though the site I have is supposed to be ready to go, I am uneasy about it. I guess we will see what happens. I will make a post later this evening with my findings and maybe we can compare what they are telling us. Thank you all for all the information. We are leaving next Tuesday evening.
I called Castaways at 6:00pm this evening and I was told that the inspectors were there today, however they did not know any details. Once again I was told that they were just as frustrated. They said they they were going to be notified by email or something. Just passing on what info. I could get.
Nice pictures BudRock, we were down there the same week we were. We were on site EE2, what site were you on?

my wife tried calling last night every couple of minutes and the phone was always busy, she will try again today.you know I never in my life seen something like this, they should have just stayed closed until everything was cleared to open, this is ridiculous 3 days away from the day we are supposed to leave and we don't even no if we are going to have a site, nobody returns your calls, can't get through on the phone most of the time and to late to make other plans now, real nice.

I feel your pain, I really do. Not having your phone calls returned is entirely unprofessional. However, I'm sure that they're just as frustrated as you are that the campground is not completed at this time. That said, for any of us who have ever had construction work done on our homes, businesses, etc., why would you even EXPECT that a major construction project would be completed on time? You always have to expect that the project will go over time and, probably, over budget, and you have to plan for it.
They should have sent out letters or contacted people who had reservations early enough so that other plans could be made. If they thought there was even a chance of the site that was reserved not being approved.

Thanks, I wanted to see for myself what Castaways is going to look like. Years and years ago, on my first trip to the area, we stayed at Eagles nest campground. It was nice way back then. A few years ago I drove thru it again. I don't think that they had done any work on the place since the first time I stayed there in the 70's. The new campground looks like it will be great with a price to go along with it. But at least it will be one more choice in a very busy area.
I stayed at Fort Whaley for the first part of the week. I was in the A Lane section. There was only a few campers in this area while I was there. Nice big sites with lots of shade. I had not stayed there before and was impressed with how they seemed to really pay close attention to keeping everything clean and nice. Nice friendly professional staff too. Too bad is not closer to the beaches.
For the end of the week I moved to the Delaware Sea Shore State Park.
That of course is a large parking lot, but close to great beaches and Rehoboth area. I really like that end of ocean front much better than OC end. I miss the Three Seasons in Rehoboth.
I agree. I think that Castaways is off to a very poor start.
Customer service is something that should be at the top of the list of campgrounds or any business for that matter. It is especially important in a new business to make a good first impression. While I agree that much of new construction is almost beyond their control, the way they have responded to the delays is not.
They should have been at a minimum been providing daily detailed updates to campers who have made reservations. They could have done this on their web site. I would expect some type of compensation for those people who have made reservations that the campground can not fulfill. Most campgrounds penalize campers that have to cancel reservations. I would think that if the campground has to cancel your reservation turn about is fair play not to mention good PR.
How about giving these people a free stay at another time?
My husband just called them and they said that the 1 pool opened up today as well as the piers. I am not sure about the other camp sites, however. I will be there next week and I will make a posting as soon as I get there to let you all know how it is and what the progress is.
