So our unit only has one AC and during really hot camping trips if we are not in the shade we do get a tad warm...meaning last trip we could only get our rig to 82 inside yet the humitdy was really low inside the 5er so it didn't feel all that bad.

However, was thinking of trying the Kool Seal product on the rubber roof...anyone ever done this and does this void the warranty of the roof?

Here is the link:

The link

Other wise me may consider getting a second AC to run off the park 20 am pole next to the 30.

Would appreciate some direction and or advice here. Thanks folks

I don't know anything about that cool seal stuff, but my guess it will not be effective enough to alleviate your air conditioning problem.

Don't think Kool seal is going to make that much of a difference if you have a white rubber roof. Perhaps get a more powerful a/c or install another one. Is your a/c centrally ducted?

First question what is the outside temp.

We have 33 ft 5er (three slides) and have one 13,500 AC unit and yes it does run constantly in the peak of the day when hot outside, but not on extra high fan speed. As you say 82 with low humidity inside is about where we are at when in IA and outside is like a rain forest... as it was last summer. Green mold grew on the outside of the 5er due to the humidity.

Would you consider having your unit checked out to see if it is working up to par. Now I know that is not easy to do as who wants to take it to a dealer (who does AC service) as you are living it it.

One of my big worries is to have our AC go out in the middle of the summer (I do not handle heat well) and where do we find someone to work on it, and if they would come to us. Thought we might just have to have someone install a new unit as fast as we can so I can get back in cool air or move to a motel.

I remember once years ago before we went fulltime, when we still had our S&B and the house AC went out in a heat wave in summer.. I moved into our at the time (small Jayco vacation 5er unit in the back yard) Saved the day for me.

Our maintenance contract with the local heating and cooling company saved the day> As if you have a maintenance contract where they visit spring and fall for checkups, they promise to come to you ahead of others.

I have a friend that puts the Kool Seal on his new unit as soon as he gets it. He sy it does help keep it cool and helps the A/C. I have never used it on the units that I own.

I think the new A/C units are seal units and they have to change them completely out when they go bad. I had a new unit go bad in 05 and they changed the complete A/C unit out for a new one. My 15K A/C units runs all the time in the heat of the day and then it will start to cycle when the sun goes down.

Thanks for the replies.

Our 5er has a 15K AC. The last trip we had it was 95-97 outside with 85% humidly. Inside it got up to 82 with 40% humidity. With small area fans it didn't feel all that bad inside, but with the AC on high and the fans it is sure loud in the unit.

I've used a lot of Kool Seal products...but mainly for sealing up or just rejuvenating older roofs. While it does initially give you a cleaner more reflective roof it soon looses its luster and gets dirty. I'm sure there MIGHT be a short term gain, and possibly a little insulation value due to another layer, but I have to think it is miniscule.

IMHO...that would not be the way to go for your puposes..I doubt that you would be happy with the rate of return. I assume???? you have considered just adding another A/C unit. Doesn't have to be another biggie...a small 7500BTU in the bedroom would make a big difference. There have been a lot of threads on adding A/C's...Brian

Well the bad news...called Jayco, they do not prewire the Super Lights, only the Eagles and Designers.

they also said that the Bedroom area wouldn't support the weight of a second AC. I find this hard to believe considering they say its ok to walk on the roof. How much can a small ac weigh? Myself and a buddy (both around 180lbs each) were on the roof installing vent covers when I bought the rig.

As mentioned...lots of posted info on second A/C installations, both with and without prewiring. I agree with your appraisal of the weight limitation...the hatch that exists is already cross framed between rafters. I know it's easy for me to say, but I wouldn't hesitate to put in small one.....Brian

Yeah I have been reading through some of those threads...its a tad confusing. I am ok with the idea of running a second outlet to be used on the power pole at the campgrounds, however, where does that power outlet go?
