Well we have been full-timing about 6 months now and our new Legends 5er is developing a few issues that need to be fixed under warranty. One of the items is a creak in the floor next to the front closet, which will require the carpet to come up (at least partially) I don't think it will take long to fix, probably just put a couple of screws in the floor to resecure it to the frame.
My question is this, there are 4 of us, including two small children, that will displaced (we have somewhere to go for the day, but not the night without getting a hotel). How accomodating are dealers to the plight of full-timers who can't just drop off their home for a couple of weeks to get issues fixed? I need to get this stuff done before we head out to Colorado next month and definitely can't just leave it with them as it is our home. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Any recommendations on a dealer in the Fort Worth area to take it to? The only Legends/Pilgrim dealer is Texas Happy Camper.

Be very careful if you are full timing in your RV. Many RV manufacturers will void the warranty if you even mention that you are living full time in your RV. Anonymously call the factory and ask if they are one of the companies that do so. You may have to "camp out" while your rv is being fixed, unless the dealer or factory will pay for your lodging!

Coachman told us they would void our warranty, so be careful. I would contact the service facility and tell them you will be in that area, on vacation, and would like to stop in for the repairs. Explain that you will need to sleep in it at night. Our Coachmen had slide problems, which had to be removed, so they provided us with a tt to stay in. Monaco brings the mh back at end of the day, every day, so we have had good luck with our LaPalma. Monaco has a cg at their service centers.... your manufacturer probably does, also.

Me, I'd call dealers around me that warranty those things, explain to them that your family is from Winnemucca Nowhere and on a 6 month vacation. You need some repairs done and find out if they will provide full hooks up there. Then I would go rent me a motel 8 , take the kids and mutts and make a semi vacation of it. Be sure you get them to fix it in one day, or find a dealer that will.

Having thought about it, I lied, I would fix it myself.

We've had no problems finding dealers that would make an appointment for a specific day and time, and if longer work was needed, they let us park on their lot overnight.

If it turns out to be an extended stay for repairs you don't have much choice other than to make other arrangements for lodging.

I had an issue than was going to require about 3+ days in the shop and the work would have prevented me from staying in the RV as some dealers will let you do at night. My answer was to get the work done near family so I'd have a place to stay (free). One of the inherent inconveniences of full-timing. Twice now I've had to put it in the shop for short durations and both time did it near relatives so I'd have a place to stay and it was nice anyway visiting friends and family during the wait.

As far as what to tell them? You have no need to tell them anything other than what repairs you need done and maybe the fact you are from out of town. They'll either get it done in one day or not. They'll either allow you to stay in the rig at night or they won't. if not then back to the need for lodging. Best of luck!!

Well I called the local dealer and told the service guy what the problems were and explained that we were living in the 5er for the time being. I explained that we needed the 5er back that day, he didn't seem too happy about it but said that he would get it done. So first thing next Thursday I'll take it in and hope they can get the stuff done.
On another note, they'll probably have to order a new TV (DVD portion not working correctly) and order a new Apollo 1/2 time oven (yeah I know of the issues with them, I figured get it replaced while it's still under warranty and replace it after the warranty is up once it dies again). Those items I'll have to wait for them to come in and then uninstall the old ones and swap them and install the new ones. Easier than taking the 5er back a second time.
We'll see how it goes.

Sometimes you can find an independent rv repair facility that will do warranty work for the manufacturer. When our RV was under warranty, the local SunnyBrook dealer was not interested in doing warranty work because we did not purchase from him. We worked with the manufacturer and he allowed the independent to do the work. We paid the repair facility and the manufacturer paid us.

I do my own work. The ones in the shops are no more experienced than you and I. They just lost their job mowing grass and needed a quick paycheck. They don't have a vested interest in that rig and will not take as good care as I do. Plus, you have to worry about them plummeting through your belongings. I've heard horror stories about that. Sorry, but just call me paranoid and untrusting.

You are lucky that you can find a dealer who will perform warranty work for you if you didn't buy there. Many won't even talk to you once they learn it's for warranty work and you didn't buy there.

We were lucky in that our manufacturer would authorize an independent service provider to complete the work when we were travelling in Ft. Myers FL this past winter (after the local dealer - Marks RV - couldn't fit us in for 3+ months???? What's with that!!!). Using an independent service provider could mean that you could have the work done right at your campground rather than take it somewhere (and have it held up for days/weeks).

You might want to ask your manufacturer about that option.
