Hi everyone,
Newby here...
Have a problem with my 22 foot 1992 Hi-Lo Travel Trailer.
The trailer will raise and lower just as it's supposed to, however, when i lower it, if i take the trailer all the way down, fluid comes out of the hydraulic pump housing. (from the fill cap). It only leaks out when i get to about the last 3 inches to the lowest point. If it starts coming out, i can raise it up a couple of inches and it stops leaking. Almost like there is too much fluid. I've had the trailer for about 5 years, and never had to add any fluid. the entire pump is mounting in the battery storage box and has to be uninstalled and unmounted to look down in the fill hole.
Does anyone have any experience with these pumps? I'm not a mechanic by far, but, it seems that the reservoir would be under pressure, and the fill cap would have some type of gasket under it. (similar to a car's radiator cap). If this is the case, maybe i can simply replace the cap. I'm sure i can handle that, but i don't want to continue to use it if i am damaging it. I sure don't want to take it to the local rv center and get charged who knows what, for a bad fill cap.
Any advice will be appreciated.

"What warranty does Hi-Lo give on the hydraulic lifting system?
The lift system is covered by a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. Parts are covered for the life of the original owner and labor is covered for 6 years."

I hope you are the original owner....

Hi - I have and am familiar with Hi-Los however I'm not sure what is happening with yours. Perhaps post your question on the Yahoo Hi-Lo group, there are several people who might be able to help plus couple of poster work at the Hi-Lo factory itself.

You will need to join the group to read and post messages.

Not sure where the extra fluid came from,(unless someone filled it with the top up) but the level is supposed to be about an inch below the filler when the top is DOWN.
No the reservoir is not pressurized.
Suck a little out and see if your problem goes away.

Sounds like too much fluid. Should br about an inch from the top of the resevoir with the top down. You also might have some expansion if the temperature is really hot. Al C. 1704 HI-LO

Thats what i thought as well... too much fluid.
However, i have had the trailer for about 5 years and never added any fluid, and it has never spiiled out before.
The last time we used it was about 2 years ago and it worked fine without any fluid spill...
I did jack it up to put on new tires. other than that the trailer has sat in the exact same spot for 2 years.
(i really dont think installing new tires has anything to do with it!!!)

Isn't Hydraulic Fluid hygroscopic??? I wonder if from sitting you have enough moisture in the lines to essentially "add" to the fluid level... A level check might be in order and perhaps a refilling/flushing???
