I am looking to buy a surge protector for my Kodiak 23BH. It has 30 amp service--not a lot of extra electronics. Any recommendations? Manufacturers to avoid?
Thanks!

I use a portable Surge Protector that I purchased at Camping World. I believe it cost around $90.

You might want to have a look at this site relative to surge protectors.

buy one like the one at camping world for $259 that is a surge guard, and protects against miswiring, restart timer delay, high and low voltage, etc.
its a one time purchase and cheap insurance.

Is this really a big issue out there? Most people don't have a surge protector for their entire house; only valuable electronics- which you won't find in my camper anyway. About the only reason I can think to have one is to protect the A/C.
Can somebody share experiences of damage they sustained while camping because they didn't have a surge protector?
Thanks

fdwt,
I personally have never had any issues with surge but a close friend of mine did 2 years ago and lost his stereo, microwave and fridge and for a hundred or so dollars it probably could have been avoided......if it weren't for his mis-fortune we probably wouldn't have one.........JMO.........Happy Campin.........Daryl.

I am positive that a surge protector saved me a bundle when the campground was hit in Austin. But no, I didn't go around the campground asking people if anybody had lost anything.
my house had a bunch of stuff damaged by lightning and the power company offers a whole house SP for $8.00 a month I believe, however that won't protect against a strike coming in the ground as I understand it.
IMHO it's silly sort of penny wise and pound foolish or some such to take a chance. but go ahead and take your chances.

Although I often forget to hook it up when setting up, I do swear by my surge protector. I attach it eventually. The $100 one from CW saved the ROO one day last summer in VA.
There had been a series of nasty t-showers between the Chesapeake Bay and the ocean but not directly over the CG. However, a neighbor lost power on his Class C. It was one of those knarly 90 degree day/night scenarios. He was more than 36 hours trying to locate the issue. I had not noticed if our site got a electric bump or not.
Eventually my neighbor found a main wire friend. I thought nothing of it until I got home. Once home when I attached my power cord to the house I noticed that rubber had been melted and one of the prongs was discolored extensively. I could not positively tell you if it was simply arcing from water intrusion or if in fact the electric service in the CG had taken a hit and those with surge protectors were spared.
It is an inexpensive piece of insurance.
