I would rather have one of the trailers than liveing in a convention center or on the streets or under a bridge...i have had travel trailers for years now and all you need to do is open a window a little...none of the other areas they have been used for so many years complained a matter of fact the fema people were thanked for the campers in other hard hit areas... it wasnt till katrina that the complaing started...

Just what we need, the Govt spec'ing out a TT. That should take a $15k TT to about $50k each over some non existant hysteria. Gee whiz!

Maybe they are aired out by now. The formalyhyde smell will go away with time just like a new car smell from all the glue used in cars.

Or the price will still be the same, but the quality of the materials will be less to suit the new govt mandates. FEMA isn't worried about the trailer lasting several years, only several months.

There is nothing wrong if they air out the trailers for outgassed Formaldehyde fumes, before setting them up. Trailers were manufactured about 4 years ago, and would be fine after airing out. It seems there are still a few people trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. People just need to be reminded to ventalate the trailers when in use.

A Toledo, OH based company has come up with a product that absorbs the formaldehyde. At present it is only being sold to RV manufactures, some dealers, and the government for use. At $25 a canister it's suppose to remove all odor within a few days permanently.

I'm a katrina victim but didn't have a trailer. I visited friends who were in them and no one had any complaints about that. The people who are having problems should have gotten out sooner. Not all could but some just wanted the free ride.

Unfortunately, the press acts as a political arm of a political party to make political points, and thus skews the real truth, aided and abetted by a few malcontents who can't appreciate the pain of taxpayers who must work to support them for years on end, thus forcing the government to do silly things that always cost too much...and the rest of us do the slow burn and pay those taxes.
