I bought my 3612ds used and it did not have a subwoofer for the stereo? There is a place on the back of the stereo for a wire, so I am thinking the previous owner removed it. If I replace it, will any subwoofer do? Am I correct that I don't want a powered unit (one w/it's own amp requiring a power supply)? Where did the factory place the original subwoofer?

Also, how do you get the two speakers on the outside of the unit under the awning to work? I've tried the A/B switch on the inside stereo and it did nothing. Any ideas? Thanks.

You didn't say what year your Raptor is? My 05 bought new did not come with a sub woofer and yes the amp does have a connection for one! The speakers on the outside are connected to the cd/radio located on the outside of the trailer just above the wheels!

It sounds like you should go through the entire sound system and identify every wire and maybe re-wire so you know exactly what you have and how it is setup. From the factory my trailer was not wired correctly (the left channel was wired to both speakers in the kitchen and the right channel was wired to both speakers in the garage) and all the connections were poor. I learned a lot by re-wiring (reconnecting) all the speakers to the head and amp. Also, be careful how you mount the sub woofer. If you ever want to turn up the volume, the sub will rattle everything in the area if it is not mounted very solidly and the enclosure is not properly sized or insulated.

Try to determine if the sub output is amplified or low level that needs to go into an amp.

Two sources for top quality, modest priced subs:
http://www.zalytron.com/
http://www.partsexpress.com/car-audio.cfm
These will probably provide better sound than the thumpers sold in most car audio stores, especially the Focal speakers.

The best sub I've found for home use, either two-channel music or home theatre--very musical, very accurate:
http://www.rythmikaudio.com/index.htm
Especially with the GR-Research driver and special Rythimk servo amp.

All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

You won't know unless you inspect the outputs. A powered unit sounds pretty darn good.. I know my JBL does.

On the outside unit, there is some manner of fade between the speakers right at the unit and the external (outside wall mounted) speakers. That's the good news! The bad news is that the upper speakers are probably louder inside the trailer than they are outside...gotta hope everybody likes the same music, and at the same volume!

I've only looked at the back of the "surround sound" head unit once, but the wires didn't seem to be hooked up correctly. Without a sub, the tiny speakers are so "tinny", it's almost un-usable.

To follow up, I haven't pulled the trigger on the subwoofer yet, but I did the ipod install on the exterior stereo. Took a/b 20 minutes. With the help from bkirkpatrick's site, the hookup was easily done under the oven. I then drilled a hole in the blank outlet in the exterior stereo unit. Here's where I made a slight mod from bkirkpatrick. I used a single cord w/red and white RCA connections to go to the stereo auxillary connections, but the other end goes directly to my ipod. I simply pull the cord out through the stereo and hook it up. When I finish, I push it back through the hole leaving only the connection hanging out. Very clean. Very simple. And best of all, it works. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know a/b the subwoofer in a later post.

My 07 Raptor has a subwoofer. I dont know where it is. I usually keep it turned off, if the level of it is too high, it rattles everything around it. And it seems that the level at which it becomes effective and the level it starts rattling things is, coincidently, about the same. Worthless IMO.
