This morning I received the following unbelievable email from a friend. Not being one to simply accept mass emails as fact, I emailed the "Eddie" referenced in the message. He confirmed that he wrote the email and that it is true.
I've come to the conclusion that:
(a) They were very stupid to drive through an active x-ray system
or
(b) It actually wasn't turned on - they only thought it was
or
(c) It wasn't an x-ray, it was something else.
Even if it was an x-ray, cancers induced by x-rays take decades to develop so whatever cancer they have developed in the past two weeks is unrelated to their Mexico experience.
I'm interested to know whether anyone has any information which would shed light on this situation. Here's the email I received:
I thought this was important to anyone driving in Mexico. This IS

We have had our RV 'xrayed' or scanned with whatever the technology is and they not only make all humans leave the vehicle but all animals too. When we crossed back into Texas several years ago they had one of us drive the RV to a large quonset hut type shed and then get out while a scan was done. All they asked is what is behind the drawers in the closet, Mimi thought and said "the water pump" and they said that's all you can return for your friend and dog. I'm happy to cooperate anytime they ask as I appreciate the job they are doing.
I wouldn't have been surprised if whoever wrote that email also said they were abducted by aliens, in fact if this slant doesn't work out that is probably the next one. Hard to sue aliens though, you have to tie them to government negligence to make any money.

Maybe I am looking at this in the wrong way, but I see a few things that seem out of place.
1) Eddie told you he wrote the email, but the email is written about Eddie in the third person.
2) Is Eddie a male or female? You said:
"He confirmed that he wrote the email and that it is true."
Later in the email, Eddie is referred to as a female:
"Eddie felt it in her ears."
2) The emails states that they encountered this Xray when coming into The US from Mexico:
"A major mishap happened to Eddie and I as we were approaching the USA border while in Mexico the second last week of March, 2008."
5 Sentences later the email says:
"We crossed into the USA the next day."
My question here is, when they crossed the bordar into the US and went through the "Xray" why did it take another day to cross into the US? Am I overlooking something?
3) Did they question anyone about using the XRay machine since they knew that the xray shouldn't have been used while they were in the vehicle?
"The system is much too powerful for checking vehicles while they are occupied by people or animals. X-rays are known to initiate and/or accelerate cancer growth. The bottom line is that this device in NOT
intended to be operated in this way."
4) Did they notify anyone after the fact and alert them to what they "felt" while going through the checkpoint?
Sounds fishy to me.

The American ICE has such a machine at many of the border crossings, but as previously said, they do not allow any living thing to be in the vehicle when it is in use. Also, the American Government gave the Mexican Government such machines and trained them in the use and maintenance, but the one that was at AP Hill check point on M15, disappeared several years ago.
I for one have very serious doubts as to the authenticity of the email and even if true, the growth of any cancerous cells that I'm aware of is a little longer than 2 weeks.

There is a military mobile x-ray that has been used here on the highway between Monterrey and my house. It is a truck with a device like a cherry picker for lack of a better term, or an arm like that used on a cement truck to reach second and third stories. If you are pulled over, you are asked to drive under it.
I didn't see any harm in it. I will check it out and see if I can get a picture of it.
No, it is not a sham.
I know Donald and his wife Eddie, spent much of the winter as their neighbors, and have this notice confirmed directly from them.
I also emailed them to ask for more specifics. I have seen these roadside scanning machines a couple of times on my six trips to Mexico. I for one, would like to know more about what they are, where they are, etc.
As to their medical implications, that is something I don't know a lot about. I have watched a lot of "House" on TV, and perhaps that shades my view to the mysteries that our our bodies and our health.
Again, I would like specifics, not just opinion or off-the-cuff judgment.
Well, whatever the thing is or whoever the people are, if someone wants to run my motorhome through a giant X-Ray machine one thing is certain. I'm getting the heck out first!

X-rays make photographic negatives by fogging the film. There certainly wasn't a giant piece of film somewhere getting fogged. Maybe there was and the extra day it took to get to the USA was the time it took the film to be developed and checked. It was more likely something like the luggage scanner used at the airport. But since I know nothing about how they work I wouldn't even bet on that.
