We recently purchased our 02 sunline solaris 267sr. Trailer is in great shape, I am in the process of cleaning up a few exterior issues though. I am taking a few of the peeling stickers off and I am gonna wax the entire trailer with my orbital polisher and get the remaining stubborn black streaks off with cleaner wax. My stone guard over the front window is the worst of all, sticker is peeling pretty bad and once the entire sticker is peeled off it is gonna look really weird with the outline of the old stickers, looks as though the stone guard under the sticker has a different texture. Has anyone repainted or refinished one of these stone guards. I am trying to figure out what to do with it. The trailer looks very good with the exception to these couple things and I thing the stone guard is the worst of all. If anyone has any ideas of what might look good, or might work I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks

I redid an old Coachmen years ago. I contacted Coachmen and inquired about buying some new decals to use after the repaint. They were kind enough to just send me out some free of charge. I painted the stone cover the same color as the trim on the trailer. I put the new decals on and it turned out great! Contact your manufacturer and let them know what you are doing. Their trailers are advertisement for them and they will want them to look as good as possible. You might be surprised how much help they can be!

Unfortunately, Sunline is now out of business. Camp on!

I was going to suggest that if the rock guard is plastic, use Krylon's Fusion spraypaint. It's made specifically for plastic and won't peel or chip off. I've used it on planters, pots, outdoor furniture...even a kayak! It comes in a huge array of colors too, which is nice.
I do like the rock/granite look that the guy used in that link given above. Looks nice! Wonder if it held up?

There was an article in last months Trailer Life about restoring an older trailer. They removed the old damaged stone guard and replaced it with smoked plexiglass. Looked nice.

Your Sunline trailer has a special coating on the aluminum, and Sunline advised against waxing it. My Sunline is also the same year, and I've never waxed it. I do wash it with a car wash that has a wax in it. I would hesitate to use an orbital buffer and wax unless your trailer has some real issues with the finish.
You might be better off just replacing the stone guard. I can see where mine is starting to age. If I were going to try anything, I'd use a hair dryer and WD-40 to remove the decals. Then I would clean the surface with mineral spirits. After that, a light sanding. Then I'd use a good house primer and finish paint.....I'd check with a good paint store to see what they would recommend for paint. But....I'd still be tempted to find a good new replacement in a compatible or complimentary contrasting color.
Congrats on getting a Sunline. They are a great trailer and mine has held up really well with no major problems. You can't beat the quality of the cabinet work. It's a shame the company couldn't stay in business.....they made a great product for the money.

from what I have heard a investment group who was not doing very well bought out sunline and filed chapter 11. Sucks because it is a nice trailer. scbwr, I have heard that sunline did not recommend waxing their trailers because of the cyrstal coat on the aluminum, but I have seen on the sunline owners forum many peaple wax their trailers, also the dealer I bought it from took of the rear decale because it was peeling very badly and just waxed where the sticker was afterwards with no harm. My orbital buffer has varible speed so I can slow it down nice and slow. I plan on trying a spot out of the way and testing first. I am very very leery of trying any chemicals on this trailer to get the streaks off. My last one I thinned the paint on it and dont want to take any chances with this one. As far as my stone guard, if I can find a replacement sticker I think I might try that krylon fusion if I can find it in a semi gloss or satin white to match the trailer then put the new sticker on.
