The electric ceiling fan in our 2005 Caqrdinal 37RL is out of balance. The fan appears to have some type of ball and socket mount to the ceiling. When you turn the fan on, it starts to vibrate to the point that you have to turn it off.
We bought our unit in the winter and have never tried to use the fan before. We are not sure what is wrong. Does anyone have any experience with a similar problem? If so how do you resolve it.

The ball and socket type mounting is used so that the fan can seek it center and not vibrate. You might try pushing up on the entire fan gently to off seat the ball from the socket and then let it down. They are made of hard plastic and sometimes setting in the heat of the trailer over long periods of time they get stuck and won't move to find there center(friction)or try alittle furniture polish on the ball to help it move.Good luck

You probably need a blade balancing kit. Here's one way to balance the fan. http://www.rd.com/familyhandyman/content/19664/

Yes, make sure it is seated in the ball and socket joint. Also there is no need to buy a balancing kit. Tape a few pennies to the top of a blade and test. If it balances good, if not, move the pennies to the next blade until it balances.

Make sure that all of the blade tips "track" within the same plane. Tips that are high or low will cause an oscillation or act like they are unbalanced. Also make sure all the blade to hub screws are tight.

If it needs balanced, get some 1/2 washers, and blue masking tape. Add a washer to one blade, and see if it gets better, if not try another blade. Once you find the blade that is out, add more washers until it's spinning smoothly.
I have $1.25 in quarters on a fan on my wife's cousins fan in her house, smooth spinning for 5 years.

I agree with the 1/2 inch washer thing but you could use pennies. You may not have to add but one or two. Start putting them on up next to the motor and keep sliding them towards the tip of the fan. The futher out you tape them, the more "out of balance" they correct. It's a trial and error thing. Good Luck!

If you have access to a simple scale it's pretty easy to take the blades off and weigh them. Once you have them all weighing the same your problem should be solved.....

just one more thing on the ball & socket setup. The ball fits into the socket only one way & should not rotate. Make sure it's seated properly
